On January 19, 2019, the third annual Women's March brought thousands of demonstrators to the streets in some 350 cities around the world. This year's march comes amid high-profile backlash to alliances held by members of Women's March leadership and follows the founding of splinter group March On by Women's March members.
But the march also follows a turning point in the years following the 2017 Trump inauguration: the 2018 midterm elections, which cemented a new era of women trailblazers and history-makers in the political arena. In that spirit, the marches held around the world have come to represent a beacon of resilience and, more importantly, of hope. Nowhere is that more visible than in the protest signs marchers brought to their events, in Washington, DC, and sister cities globally.
