Welcome to Brit + Co’s Weekly Entertainment Planner! Each Monday, we highlight one thing we’re excited about in six categories — movies, TV, music, streaming services, podcasts, and a bonus pick from all of the above — to help you navigate your week in watching and listening. Check out our picks for the week of May 7 to 13 below. Your eyes and your ears will thank us!
Movies
Life of the Party (May 11): Melissa McCarthy plays Deanna, a woman who finds herself suddenly single after decades as a housewife and tries to reclaim her life by going back to college. The problem? She enrolls in her daughter’s school and dives headfirst into the beer-soaked, party-loving campus culture. Maya Rudolph and Gillian Jacobs also star, and Christina Aguilera plays herself, but really? You had us at “Melissa McCarthy.” (Photo via Hopper Stone/Warner Bros. Entertainment)
TV
Little Women (May 13): The latest adaptation of Louisa May Alcott’s beloved book has been one of our most-anticipated TV events for months, and it’s finally here. The universal Civil War-era coming-of-age story follows sisters Jo, Meg, Beth, and Amy March as they go from girls to young women — and yes, you will cry. The three-part series airs on PBS on Mother’s Day, May 13, 2018. (Photo via Masterpiece on PBS/BBC/Playground)
Streaming
Evil Genius (May 11): If you’ve finished binging Netflix’s Wild Wild Country and you’re looking for your next true-crime obsession, look no further than Evil Genius. The docuseries looks at the bizarre story behind the 2003 “pizza bomber heist,” when a pizza delivery man attempted to rob a bank with a bomb around his neck — and that’s just the beginning. Watch all the episodes on May 11 on Netflix. (Photo via Netflix)
Podcasts
How It Is:Reese Witherspoon is taking over the podcasting world. The Big Little Lies star launched How It Is to give women a place to share their life experiences. The podcast is hosted by Orange Is the New Black star and activist Diane Guerrero, and features guests such as Lena Waithe, #MeToo founder Tarana Burke, Gabrielle Union, and many more. Music
Taylor Swift’s Reputation tour gets underway (May 8): Swift has stayed pretty far out of the media spotlight since releasing her Reputation album, but if the accompanying tour is anything like her star-studded, headline-grabbing 1989 tour, you’ll be reading much more about her in the months to come. The Reputation tour kicks off May 8 in Glendale, Arizona, and runs until November 9, when it will wrap up in New Zealand. (Photo via Isabel Infantes/PA Images via Getty Images)
Bonus
Harry & Meghan: A Royal Romance (May 13): Lifetime’s made-for-TV movie about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s love story will make it in just under the wire before the couple’s May 19 wedding. The film will reportedly follow the pair from their very first blind date to their headline-making engagement. Watch Harry & Meghan: A Royal Romance on Sunday, May 13, at 8pm ET on Lifetime.
