6 Money Tips to Know Before Starting a Family

For many young couples, considering whether or not to have kids stirs up concerns about their ability to afford everything that comes with a new baby. From outfitting the baby’s room (even if you’re planning a DIY nursery) to mortgage-sized payments for childcare, the added expenses can feel incredibly daunting. Combine these financial concerns with the career and lifestyle choices that naturally come with starting a family, and the addition of children can be a shock to the system — so much so that the average age of new moms continues to climb from year to year.

The good news is that, similar to any big purchase, some open conversation (and hopefully agreement), as well as some advance planning about potential budget tradeoffs and goals for the future, will help minimize the financial sting of having kids. Here are six things you need to consider before expanding your family.

1. Timing: Are you and your spouse or partner on the same page about when you’d like to have kids? Are there any major financial hurdles, such as paying off credit card debt, that you’d like to complete before starting a family? Talk about these things and map out a plan for meeting your goals to avoid any additional stress.

2. Location: Do you share the same thoughts about how many children you’d like in your family? If you’d like more than one, consider what it might mean for the size of your home and, ultimately, where you live, as it could be helpful to be closer to family who may help with childcare, or in the suburbs (versus the city) where you can get more house for your money.

3. Childcare: Would one spouse prefer daycare and the other a nanny? A full-time nanny is typically double the cost of daycare for a single child. So, if you anticipate having multiple children or continuing jobs with lots of travel for each parent, a nanny may make more sense.

4. Education: Many financial experts will encourage couples to focus on saving for retirement first and education second, as the financial tools in place to borrow money for college are more accessible than borrowing money in retirement. That said, it’s helpful to talk to your spouse about the extent to which you’d like to save for your child’s education.

5. Lifestyle: What kind of lifestyle do you want to live as a family? Are you committed to all organic food and clothing? Would you like to go on regular family vacations? These decisions can have an impact on your finances and are helpful to build into your budget right from the start.

6. Savings: Children add a whole new line to your budget, from added food and clothing expenses to child care. So it may make sense to save for a year as if you’re planning on paying for major expenses such as childcare. Ramp up your savings over a few months to see how it might affect the way you live and prioritize expenses.

Keeping baby’s health and safety top of mind, along with some patience and mindfulness around how much to spend as baby arrives home, will go a long way. And don’t forget a few strategically scheduled (and budgeted) date nights and some extra sleep :)

Blake Lively is as multifaceted as they come. She's an actress who has starred in titles like Gossip Girl, A Simple Favor, and The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants (plus the upcoming adaptation of It Ends With Us). She's the founder of Betty Buzz, which has a variety of non-alcoholic mixers that taste just as good on their own as they do with liquor. And, she's also a mom. Lively has been outspoken about protecting her children from the paparazzi, making rare public appearances with them for events like her husband Ryan Reynolds' Hollywood Walk Of Fame Ceremonyandcozy date nights.

When Lively and Reynolds seemingly announced the birth of their fourth child last year, we melted. Here's everything you need to know about Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively's kids.

Is Blake Lively in any of Ryan Reynolds' movies?

Image via Paramount Pictures

Yes, Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds have been in the same movies! After meeting during the production of Green Lantern, Blake Lively has a role as an imaginary friend in Ryan Reynolds' new movie IF. In the film, Blake plays a kitten, and it looks like the child who dreamed her up also loves the ocean! This spring movie follows Ryan Reynolds' character and his neighbor Bea, who set out to save all the imaginary friends. It looks like such a fun watch and I can't wait to see the role Blake plays!

The movie also stars director John Krasinski, Cailey Fleming, Fiona Shaw, Alan Kim, Liza Colón-Zayas, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Louis Gossett Jr., and Steve Carell.

Blake Lively recently joined an episode of her Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants' costar Amber Tamblyn's Further Adoand revealed the one unbreakable rule she made with Ryan Reynolds.

“When Ryan and I got together, we made a rule not to work at the same time,” she says. “So that we could always prioritize our personal life...That takes working really hard when we're not. Just like financial planning and sustaining that; it takes balance.”

I love that Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds are serious about their family life, and that they have identified what works for them and are sticking with it.

Is Taylor Swift friends with Blake Lively's kids?

Yes, Taylor Swift loves Blake Lively's kids! At the Philadelphia show of the Eras Tour, in which Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively attended, Taylor said hello from the stage.

One funny detail about Ryan Reynolds' kids that I love is when he mentioned the girls finally realized Taylor Swift was a popstar. "I think what's most exciting for them is that for the longest time they just thought Taylor's just like an aunt, like a friend of Mommy and Daddy that's very, very close, almost family," he tellsThe Jess Cagle Show. "And then they went to a concert one day and were like, 'Ohhhhh, this isn't a hobby.'"

For Super Bowl Sunday, Blake Lively joined Taylor Swift to support beau (and KC Chiefs tight end) Travis Kelce. "Last week I left my kids for the first time ever," she says on Instagram. "I took pictures upside down and had no clue. I treated a friendship bracelet like a Flat Stanley for my husband like I didn’t realize it wasn’t ‘07. I borrowed more jewelry than the skeleton in the Pirates of the Caribbean ride. And I went clubbing. Now I know what my episode of TheTwilight Zone would look like."

How has motherhood affected Blake Lively?

Blake Lively recently opened up about how Ryan Reynolds and she monitor screen safety for their kids, which is definitely something top-of-mind in 2024. “This is not an ad. I get nothing out of this. I just love @tappityapp,” she said of the STEM-focused educational app. “It’s engaging, informative, fun and they care about safety."

She also jokes that she's learning new things right along with her daughters! But, no matter how educational or fun an app is, Blake Lively also emphasizes the importance of engaging with her kids' devices: "I’m always triple checking any kids app constantly for safety because that’s my responsibly not an app’s, but I do LOVE this one.”

Despite its fun and funny moments, the actress has admitted being a mom is hard, but she did it with her signature dry sense of humor. “BettyBooze at your service," she wrote in an Instagram Story announcing the new brand. "These are recipes I’ve been making for loved ones for years. But I have 4 kids now. And I’m tired. So here they are. In a can."

However, Lively absolutely loves motherhood, and says in a 2022 interview with Forbes that having children has made her feel more comfortable in her own skin. "Once I had children, that just became even more profound because my time was even more precious, but also I think having children for me made me feel so much more in my skin," she says. "I never felt more myself or at ease in my own body or more confident — not to say that there aren't a bevy of insecurities coming at me a million times a day, but I just feel incredibly settled."

Speaking with People in 2021, Lively also explains how important it is that her children see her accomplish things outside the home. "I want to be as present of a mother as humanly possible and I want them to feel my presence, but I also think the best way to be the best mother is to show them that you can have a life and have a passion and have an identity outside of just being a mother," Lively says.

While she acknowledges that motherhood is all-encompassing, and it looks different for everyone, she knows that having your own identity is very important. "Teaching them that they can maintain themselves and that everything is possible [is crucial]," she adds.

Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively's children are four girls. They welcomed their third daughter in 2019, making this new addition to the family their fourth kid.

When did Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds have their daughters?

Photo by Dimitrios Kambouris/Getty Images for Gabrielle's Angel Foundation

Blake Lively's children were all born in the last 10 years. Blake Lively's kids' names are James, Inez, Betty, and a fourth baby whose name they haven't announced yet. She gave birth to James in 2014, while Inez was born in 2016. Lively gave birth to Betty in 2019 and their fourth baby in February of 2023. I'm hoping that we might find out Ryan Reynolds' new baby's name in honor of her first birthday!

Why did Blake Lively name her daughter James?

The couple decided to name their daughter James after Reynolds' late father. While the name connects both James and Reynolds to his father, it also gives Lively the chance to bond with her daughter over having historically male names. "I liked having a boy's name," Lively said on Good Morning Americain 2015. "I thought I'd pass it on."

Their third daughter Betty's name is a tribute to Lively's late father. We didn't know the name of the couple's third baby until Taylor Swift used all three names in her 2020 album folklore. Swift also used James' voice at the beginning of her 2017 track "Gorgeous"! Does that mean we'll hear one of Ryan Reynolds' children in Reputation (Taylor's Version)? I hope so!

What has Ryan Reynolds said about raising their kids?

Per People, Ryan Reynolds has made it clear he and Blake are wholly invested in the kids' daily lives. The doting husband and father enjoys the moments of "walking them to school and walking them back" as it deepens their bond. More than anything, Ryan and Blake's main goal is to make sure they teach their kids how to be introspective with Ryan saying, "...that's the thing we sort of hang our hat on the most is self-awareness with our kids."

However, that doesn't mean Blake and Ryan don't absolutely love being parents. "We're very excited [and] we wouldn't do this four times if we didn't love it," he says in an interview with CNBC's Power Lunch. "Everybody's doing great. Everybody's actually doing fantastic. I think if we hadn't figured it out by now, I think we'd be in deep, deep trouble."

"It's a zoo over here," he jokes. "This is my office here, this is where I'll probably — to be honest, I'll probably spend the rest of my life in here."

We love how much energy Ryan and Blake are pouring into their kids. It's always beautiful when parents are able to be present with their kids and teach them how to be present with themselves. Ryan Reynolds has also mentioned how having daughters "has been such a ride." Since he comes from a family of all boys, having daughters is something that was beyond his wildest dreams! “I love being a girl dad,” Ryan tells Access. “I have three daughters, which I never in a million years would imagine.”

He mentioned his newest daughter in June of 2023, when he announced his new series Bedtime Stories. "The idea for a show made to help everyone fall asleep was born the same day as my fourth child," he says on Instagram.

Did Blake Lively have a 4th baby?

Blake Lively posted a pic on Super Bowl Sunday showing what appears to be a post-baby body with the caption "Been busy."

Lively confirmed her fourth pregnancy in September 2022 when she arrived at her Forbes event in NYC cradling a baby bump and by posting her own personal photos on Instagramhoping that "the 11 guys waiting outside [her] home for a 🦄 sighting will leave [her] alone."

What gender is Ryan and Blakes 4th child?

Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively's newest baby, who was born in February of 2023, is a girl! Reynolds explained on the Today Show that they "never find out" until the baby is born, and whether they decide to reveal it is totally up to them. So, does Ryan Reynolds have a son? So far, not yet, but I'm a firm believer in never say never ;).

What is the name of Blake Lively's 4th baby?

Photo by Pascal Le Segretain/Getty Images

Since Taylor Swift used the Blake Lively's kids names in folklore, Swifties think they've guessed Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds' new baby's name.

"Calling it now Blake Lively & Ryan Reynolds baby is going to be named Daisy Mae," Kaitlyn Kersten tweeted after the release of Taylor Swift's Midnights in October 2022 (the name is mentioned in "You're On Your Own Kid.") While we don't have official word on what Ryan Reynolds' new baby name is, we do think that James, Inez, Betty, and Daisy sound great together!

Do Blake and Ryan have nannies?

Image via Jamie McCarthy / Staff

Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds' children don't have a nanny. "I feel like I could sometimes have a bit of a short fuse, but there's just been this weirdly endless supply of patience," Ryan told GQ in 2015. "I have no problem waking up five times in the middle of the night and changing diapers, and as exhausted as you get, I have this stupid grin on my face all the time."

Nothing's more irritating than having to throw out fresh fruit you just bought because it either ripened too fast or was already festering with mold. And what food is the biggest culprit? Usually, it’s bananas. Unless you're fitting bananas in your everyday meal routine, it’s difficult to keep up with how quickly they brown (which can be anywhere from 24 hours to five days, depending on how green they were at the store when you grabbed them).

The good news is that there’s actually a lot you can do with overripe bananas. We turned to chefs for top tips (both creative and delicious) that will prevent you from throwing speckled bananas in the trash!

What To Do With Overripe Bananas

Image via Butternut Bakery

Banana Bread, Obviously

One of the most widespread baking recipes to make with overripe bananas is banana bread. Why? Because it’s simple, delicious, and an automatic crowd-pleaser. Check out our one bowl gluten-free banana bread recipe, our chocolate banana pumpkin bread, or these 40 recipes of banana bread that you need to make this weekend (the options are endless!).

(Writer’s note: My go-to recipe is the chocolate chip banana bread from Butternut Bakery — but I use dark chocolate chips instead!)

Freeze Them For Your Smoothies

When in doubt, put your overripe bananas in the freezer. Then you’ll at least have time to think on what to do with them—and you can throw them in your morning smoothies. Bananas last up to three months in the freezer ideally, and pair well with a variety of different flavor profiles, like caramel, blueberry, chocolate, or orange.

This strawberry-banana colada smoothie from Half Baked Harvest may just be your new fav, or the cloudy summer smoothie which doubles as an Erewhon smoothie dupe. Chef Chris Morgan of Joon restaurant in Washington D.C. advises using overripe bananas and other raw fruits for your children at home (he makes little smoothies for his 7-month old baby—pure genius!).

Make Banana Cookies

Substitute the flour for bananas in your baking with some tasty cookie options. The plus side of banana cookies is that they are often automatically gluten-free and can easily become dairy-free (but always check first!). These easy peanut banana oatmeal cookies from Food Faith Fitness are a great option. If you’re looking to ditch the peanut butter, try out these 4-ingredient banana oat cookies from Livvin Media.

Ice Cream, Anyone?

There is nothing better than sorbet or ice cream in the summer months. All you really need is frozen ripe bananas, any other frozen fruit you prefer, milk (whichever kind you enjoy— almond, oat, etc.) and some sweeteners like honey or vanilla extract. To fit your health goals, you can even throw in protein powder. This strawberry nice cream from Kathryn’s Kitchen Blog only has five ingredients!

Upgrade Your Breakfast

Pancakes, overnight oats, and muffins are all incredibly tasty options to use up those ripe bananas and upgrade your breakfast game. Try Butternut Bakery’sbanana nut muffins for a quick snack or these healthy chia banana pancakes from Half Baked Harvest for a savory morning bite. You can also sift through Brit + Co’s 17 overnight oats recipes — keep in mind that overnight oats only last a few days in the fridge, though!

Make Dog Treats

Don’t leave out your furry friends— they love bananas too! Making long-lasting dog treats “relieves the pressure on the idea of food waste, plus there is a bonus that your pets are spoiled, happy, and nutritiously rewarded,” says pastry chef Susan Bae of the critically-acclaimed restaurant, Moon Rabbit in Washington D.C. Check out her go-to dog treat recipe below:

Chef Susan Bae’s Dog Treat Recipe:

250g organic whole wheat flour

240g organic peanut butter

70g organic, unsweetened apple sauce

56g mashed overripe banana

113g organic plain bone broth

25g organic shredded cheddar cheese

25g freeze dried blueberries

Preheat oven to 350F.

1.) Mix to combine whole wheat flour, peanut butter, apple sauce, bone broth and banana. Until a dough is lightly formed.

2.) Fold in shredded cheese and dried blueberries to evenly distribute in dough.

3.) Roll dough out to 1/4” thickness and use your favorite cookie cutters to cut out treats.

4.) Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper and bake dog treats until firm and dry to touch (this varies with each oven) Check at 45 minutes.

5.) Store at room temperature for up to 1 week in an airtight container or in the fridge for up to 3 weeks.

I was raised in a traditional family, so I grew up believing society and the government truly values that. But lately it seems like there's a huge disconnect between what I've been taught and what new parents — like myself — are realizing. Amid the recent IVF rulings in Alabama and threats of a national abortion ban, it's incredibly unclear what the government's ultimate goal for families is at the end of the day.

The recent (and very shocking) IVF controversy stems from a lawsuit where a clinic lost embryos due to negligence, per BBC. As a result, Alabama's Supreme Court ruled that the embryos are children as a way to protect their rights in the future. What makes this so sticky? This trickles down past IVF and right into abortion legalities. Alabama has a total abortion ban, so in theory this means that whether you're trying to conceive or not, you could be penalized for what happens to any embryos you don't carry to term — making you a criminal either way.

Since then, laws to protect IVF have rolled out, but is it too late? Have these restrictive ideals already hit hard and fast enough to make their mark? The fact that it feels like women are being treated like we're extras in The Handmaid's Tale already makes a pretty good case for that, but these "pro-life" stances seem to end at birth. At the end of the day, with these prospective laws and values, woman are forced into having kids, and then we're left to pick up the pieces of healthcare disparities and childcare costs. And if the biological mother can't keep her child? Well, then there's the crumbling foster care system.

If the government is so pro-life that they're passing anti-abortion and strict IVF laws, then what are they doing to take care of mothers and children after pregnancy and after birth? Let's take a deeper look.

Maternal Mortality Crisis

Image via MART PRODUCTION/Pexels

When I gave birth, I had to have a scheduled induction due to GBS — a bacteria that can cause infections in newborns — being found in my system, and it initially terrified me. I gave birth in 2021 and pandemic policies were so strict that I was terrified my S.O. and I wouldn't be able to advocate for my wellbeing. The only thing that made me feel confident I'd be okay is the fact my OBGYN was a Black woman who made sure things were running smoothly during labor. However, this isn't everyone's experience. Dr. Kameelah Phillips told Today, "Black physicians make up about 5-6% of all physicians. Black female physicians make up 2% of all physicians."

Sadly, some mothers' concerns often aren't prioritized and can ultimately lead to their death if their doctors don't listen to them. The CDCreported an increase of the mortality rate from 23.8 deaths to 32.9 "per 100,000 live births" in 2021, highlighting how this seemingly isn't getting any better.

On top of that, the WHO shared the following symptoms that can affect 75% of maternal mortality cases:

  • Severe bleeding (mostly bleeding after childbirth)
  • Infections (usually after childbirth)
  • High blood pressure during pregnancy (pre-eclampsia and eclampsia)
  • Complications from delivery
  • Unsafe abortion
Although some of these things can be prevented, factors like having access to adequate care and biases about one's pain tolerance can cause healthcare providers to overlook their patients' concerns.
In fact, Attorney Laura Coates shared her own brush with death with Dr. Kameelah Phillips on CNN. She said, "After my first child, I almost died. I was hemorrhaging and had to have multiple [blood] transfusions...The idea of being my own champion was always on my mind because I was hearing the stories about the bedside manner of some doctors not taking the pain a black woman feels seriously."

Image via Alex Green/Pexels

Aside from physical symptoms, it's important to factor in the mental health of mothers. A report by American Hospital Association noted that 1 in 8 women struggle with depression while half never receive treatment for it. I admittedly struggled with postpartum depression and suicidal ideation for well up to a year after giving birth, thinking my son would be better off without me as his mom. While I was fortunate to have the support of my family and access to a therapist to help me work through my depression, the realization that so many mothers suffer in silence is a lot to stomach. Sure, there's a six-week check-up occurs after giving birth, but I wish there was more affordable care that helps parents navigate this new chapter in their life.

The U.S. Government Accountability Office only just put out a report this year that we're at an all-time crisis level for maternal mortality. And while I love that someone somewhere is looking into this on a more official basis...it's just a report at the end of the day. There's no action, no plan — just a call for the Department of Health and Human Services to make a change. How many red flags are raised before tangible action comes into play?

Healthcare Disparities

Image via Jasmine Williams

This leads me to the healthcare disparities that can also affect children after they're born. Seeing firsthand how easy it is for some some providers to treat patients like they're nothing more than another number is wild to witness as a mom. Now that I'm in a place where I can address this based on experience after experience, I have to say that my child's healthcare providers have dropped the ball too many times to count within the past year.

When he was an infant, his dad and I had to make many trips to Cranial Technologies because he had a combination of Plagiocephaly and Brachycephaly, meaning some parts of his head were flatter and wider than others. It was difficult to process all of this, but our team was kind, considerate, and as helpful they could be.

While that was a more fortunate experience I'll always cherish, that standard of care wasn't (and isn't) always the case. The provider for my son's eczema treatment has been anything but gracious. In fact, her nonchalant attitude left such a bad taste in our mouths that we've opted to seek care that's outside of the network his former pediatric's office works with.

Sadly, I'm not the only parent who's experiencing roadblocks when advocating for my child. In a study by The Lancet Child & Adolescent Health, researchers have found that minority children didn't receive the same level of care as "non-Hispanic White children" regardless of the intended pediatric care. Although we don't like to say the quiet part out loud, this can be due to internal biases from healthcare providers.

NPR is careful to note the The Lancet Child & Adolescent Health review also touches on the fact that minority children's treatment for pain is either nonexistent or barely covers the surface. You'd think people would understand that one's skin color doesn't determine how much pain they're able to withstand, but apparently this is a bias that runs deep thanks to a another finding by JAMA Network. A portion of their review states, "Physician implicit bias has been associated with false beliefs that Black patients have greater pain tolerance, thicker skin, and feel less pain than White patients."

Until we start addressing the fact that biases can affect the level of healthcare that even children receive, I truly fail to understand how the government can rush to instill restrictive laws for embryos before protecting the lives that already exist.

Childcare Costs

Image via Yan Krukau/Pexels

So your child is born, they're healthy (for now), and it's time to get into "regular life" and look into childcare. I know it's easy for people to say, "Don't have kids if you can't afford them," but that doesn't account for the many varying factors in someone's life like socioeconomic status, unforseen circumstances, and whether or not you live in a state that allows for any choice. Plus, let's be real — childcare is expensive for everyone.

A report by Bank of America revealed that childcare has "risen over 30%" during the past five years with higher income families grappling with the effects of this more. The daycare I'm literally getting ready to unenroll my son from is increasing it's price to a little under $250 per week — and frankly the cost is still abysmal. While I'm in a position to work remotely, the rising costs of childcare is causing some parents to even leave their full-time jobs behind. Another study conducted by ReadyNation showed that the U.S. economy decreases by $122 billion every year this professional exodus happens.

Betsey Stevenson, an economics and public policy professor at the University of Michigan toldCBS, "With child care costs set to rise substantially with government funding disappearing, a lot of people are having to look and say 'Can we afford this higher cost of child care?'"

If families and children were truly valued, childcare providers would have access to better funding, and families would have more access to adequate care for their children. With inflation showing zero signs of going away, it's unrealistic to assume that it's feasible for parents to choose between working and being with their children full-time. That's a privilege many people simply don't have.

However, the Biden-Harris Administration is seeking to help reduce costs for families. They recently added a rule to the Executive Order on Increasing Access to High-Quality Care and Supporting Caregivers act which seeks to expand childcare choices for families, increase the payments providers receiver, and make it easier for families to receive assistance to pay for childcare. But is that enough? What happens when someone else steps into office? How do we further protect these parents from the whims of the economy?

Foster Care Inequality

Image via Andrea Piacquadio/Pexels

Aren't able to keep a biological child, but don't have the option for abortion? Let's look at the foster care system! The National Council For Adoption shared a survey in 2021 that showed, "...for every child adopted from foster care, two children remained in care who were awaiting adoption." While it may seem like adoption is a quick and easy option for people, this doesn't necessarily guarantee every child will immediately be placed in a loving home.

There's a chance that some children remain in foster care until they're 18 or 21. Another study by PubMed shows that "more than 20,000 youth age out of foster care and lose their safety nets overnight." It makes me wonder if their lives don't matter because they're legally considered to be old enough to fend for themselves.

So what's being do to break down these barriers for the children born into the foster care and adoption systems? If women can't get abortions because the child's life matters most, what are we doing to make sure they're able to live safely and comfortably post-birth? Where is that legislation? I don't have all of the answers when it comes down to how families and born children are regarded in this country, but I do know that it's disheartening to realize restrictive laws aren't necessarily solving what motherhood — and the subsequent life of a child — actually entails.

Thankfully, there are some laws that are being put in place to ensure kids in foster care can be taken care of. AP News reports that it may be easier for caregivers to receive the support they need to take care of family members that may have placed up for adoption. Not only that, but a new legislation could make sure LGBTQ+ youth are protected from harsh treatment.

But if every child that results from a thwarted abortion joins the foster care system, what happens? According to the CDC, there were more than 600k reported abortions in 2021 alone. Even with all those potential protections, could the system handle over half a million more children? Not only that, but could they handle them with care?

Photo by Kristina Paukshtite / PEXELS

I genuinely wish we were governed by people who didn't try to criminalize a person's right to choose to bring life into this world or remain childless. The "pro-life" and "pro-choice" camps have been against each other for so long, and now it's spilling over into confusing — not to mention harmful — laws that will have long term ramifications for future generations. It's not enough to stand in front of podium and say all families and children matter when statistics show that's not the case.

People who have lost loved ones due to the maternal mortality crisis and healthcare disparities know there's always been an invisible line. Now, future generations are looking at us to see if we're going to continue pretending like all lives in this country are valued or just the unborn ones — embryos included — because it sounds 'nice' to say. Only time will tell.

Most California Small Business Loan Match lenders are certified as Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFIs), which means they offer competitive rates but specialize in helping borrowers who don’t meet the rigid lending criteria of traditional banks — for example, small businesses that have a lower credit score, a prior defaulted loan, or no up-front collateral. CDFIs specialize in helping people in lower-income communities too, and offer a much more flexible and affordable repayment plan than online lenders or Merchant Cash Advance (MCA) loans.

Check them out to help you grow your business, meeting our mission to help you succeed! Good luck!

I am the opposite of a casual Reputation fan. Four of my five most-listened-to songs on Spotify are from the 2017 album, I wore a Rep-inspired outfit to my Eras Tour show, and I am constantly analyzing (and talking about) its symbolism. I stand by the fact that this album, as misunderstood as it is, is actually the key to understanding Taylor Swift herself, which is why its rerelease is the one I've been most looking forward to. With TikTok, X (formerly Twitter), and Reddit, it feels like there's a new theory every day about when we'll get Reputation (Taylor's Version), but I'm pretty sure Taylor's been telling us the announcement date the whole time.

When is Taylor Swift releasing Reputation (Taylor's Version)?

The cappuccino Easter egg from the "Karma" music video.

We don't have an official Reputation (Taylor's Version) release date yet, but all signs were originally pointing to an announcement on February 16, 2024. When the music video for "Karma" from Midnights came out, featuring a shot of Taylor holding a cappuccino, Swifties immediately picked up on the symbolism. The blue nail (which represents 1989 (Taylor's Version)) lines up with the 8 on the clock, and the black nail lines up with the 2 on the clock. Taylor ended up announcing 1989 TV on August 9 — and then announced The Tortured Poets Department(also known as TS11) onstage at the 2024 Grammys in February!

TaylorNation just teased the Reputation (Taylor's Version) release date by hopping on the latest internet trend, which uses the "You wouldn't last an hour in the asylum where they raised me" lyric from "Who's Afraid Of Little Old Me?" Their Instagram carousel features images that have sent Swifties spiraling in the past, but there are two pics I'm paying special attention to: the "five holes in the fence" image from the Lover era, and a "Bejeweled" music video still of Taylor Swift pressing 3 in an elevator. May 3 (5/3) comes two weeks after the TTPD release, and since Taylor has been emphasizing her lead single "Fortnight" with the "For a Fortnight" challenge, it looks like it could line up perfectly.

There are plenty of other potential summer release dates too! Swifties know Taylor Swift lives and breathes the number 13, and that she's been making her recent rerecording announcements at her Eras Tour shows.

Well, this summer, Taylor is heading to Milan for a show on Saturday, July 13. X user @roranotaurora points out that the symbol for Milan is a snake (it's also a symbol for Rep!) AND that on July 13, 1977, there was a blackout across New York City. When Taylor announced the original Reputation in 2017, the "Don't Blame Me" singer blacked out all her social media. If she announced the album in July, there's a good chance we'd get it just in time for autumn, chilly weather, and Daylight Savings Time, all three of which go perfectly with the Reputation aesthetic.

There's another 13 we need to pay attention to as well: December 13, which is also Taylor Swift's birthday. The popstar had the date front and center in her Tortured Poets Department pop-up installation. Since the date falls on a Friday, it's the perfect day to drop some new music...

Are there any other clues that Reputation (Taylor's Version) will come out next?

Taylor Swift attends the 81st Annual Golden Globe Awards at The Beverly Hilton on January 07, 2024 in Beverly Hills, California.

Recently, Taylor showed up to the 81st Golden Globe Awards in an all green ensemble, which is already so Reputation-coded to begin with. However, fans noticed one teeeeeeeny tiny detail about her look that really leans into all the theories that Rep (TV) is next. If you zoom in on her rings, one of them is a snake that's wrapped around her finger. 🐍

And after Taylor Swift released a video teasing her new album, Swifties are analyzing all the snakeskin patterns (on the curtains, the floor, and the green couch), as well as the dark visuals. While the video moves from the dark room to a bright one for TTPD, I'm convinced we'll be returning — or continuing down the hallway where you can see a dark picture frame waiting for us...

All the surprise songs at her Tokyo Eras Tour shows referenced falling apart, and a huge part of the Reputation era was related to a quote from Taylor that says "when she fell, she fell apart." Before playing "The Outside" as her piano surprise song on February 9, she made a joke that the song was 175 years old — which has Swifties thinking August 2 (175 days from February 9) could be the album's release date. Considering "The Outside" is off her first album, it's also possible we're getting Taylor Swift (Taylor's Version) in August!

A recent Disney+ ad that paired the Eras Tour film and Disney Pixar's Cars went viral on Twitter because its tagline is "Getaway Car," one of the most beloved songs on Reputation (Taylor's Version)! No matter when the album drops, having Taylor Swift's final two re-recordings be her name and her reputation is literally so iconic and I can't wait to listen.

What Taylor Swift songs are on Reputation (Taylor's Version)?

We know that, based on previous re-recordings, Reputation (Taylor's Version) will have the original tracklist and an unknown number of vault tracks that Taylor wrote ahead of the Reputation era. PEOPLE also confirmed we'll be able to hear Taylor Swift's "Look What You Made Me Do (Taylor's Version)" in the new docuseries for the New England Patriots! You can also hear a snippet in the trailer for Ashley Benson's Wilderness ;). Here's what you can expect on Taylor Swift's Reputation (Taylor's Version). I'm really hoping the vault tracks include "I Don't Want To Live Forever"!

  1. "Ready For It? (Taylor's Version)"
  2. "End Game (Taylor's Version)"
  3. "I Did Something Bad (Taylor's Version)"
  4. "Don't Blame Me (Taylor's Version)"
  5. "Delicate (Taylor's Version)"
  6. "Look What You Made Me Do (Taylor's Version)"
  7. "So It Goes... (Taylor's Version)"
  8. "Gorgeous (Taylor's Version)"
  9. "Getaway Car (Taylor's Version)"

What is Taylor Swift wearing to Grammys 2024?

Taylor Swift showed up to the 2024 Grammys in a sculptural white gown from Schiaparelli Couture. I love how Taylor has hopped on the corset trend. This is my favorite neckline in recent years! Even though the dress is white instead of black or green — and ended up going along with the Tortured Poets Department (or TS 11) announcement — I think it's still a Reputation (Taylor's Version) Easter egg. White is, of course, the opposite of black, so I think it's a more unexpected reference to the album, with black accessories like gloves, shoes, and jewelry being a direct nod. Plus, the watch necklace pays homage to Midnights! At the 2022 VMAs, Taylor wore another Reputation-coded outfit before she announced Midnights, so I think it's definitely a pattern.

Taylor Swift performs at Optus Stadium on October 19, 2018 in Perth, Australia.

Yes, we're getting a Reputation (Taylor's Version)! Taylor Swift has been very vocal about the fact she's rerecording her first five albums. However, she's been less direct about the order or the release schedule, which is honestly more fun! The official Taylor Nation account added fuel to the fire when they posted a photo of Taylor rehearsing for The Eras Tour — because, like @nashs_mom on TikTok says, the pose doesn't match up with any of the songs. While all the photos they've previously posted match up with numbers like "Enchanted" or "Illicit Affairs," the new pose seems to match up with "I Did Something Bad" (which is both the last Reputation surprise song left AND the perfect song to announce the rerecording).

"Hear me out," another TikTok user commented. "['I Did Something Bad'] was not part of the set list in 2023 but what if the first night of the tour in 2024 she performs [it] and announces REP TV."

"I literally ratatatataed as soon as I saw it," another user says, referencing the iconic production at the beginning of the song. We have less than a month before the Eras Tour starts up again, so I'm excited to see when we'll finally get a Reputation (Taylor's Version) announcement!

What caused Taylor Swift to make Reputation?

The primary catalyst for Taylor Swift's Reputation era was a phone call with Kanye West and Kim Kardashian. After Taylor said Kanye did not have her permission to say he "made that b-tch famous" in "Famous," a video leak from Kim seemed to show Taylor did actually give her permission (it was later revealed the video was edited, and Taylor gave her permission to be mentioned, NOT to be called a b-tch).

"#TaylorSwiftIsOverParty" began trending on Twitter, and everyone from the media to the general public began calling her a snake. So she disappeared from the public eye for over a year, and Reputation was born. The era was moody — and full of snake imagery. Taylor says in her TIME interview that the album came from "a goth-punk moment of female rage at being gaslit by an entire social structure," and told Rolling Stone in 2019 that Reputation was a "metaphor" and her "playing a character."

Taylor began writing Reputation in 2016, when she was 27. However, the stories she's telling go back farther than that since "Dancing With Our Hands Tied" talks about a relationship from when she was 25.

Is Reputation a love album?

Cover art for Taylor Swift's Reputation.

While Reputation is sassy, moody, and satirical, I stand by the idea that it's actually a love album at its core. While the general public talked most about "Ready for It?" and "Look What You Made Me Do," songs like "Delicate," "Call It What You Want," and "New Year's Day" are all about healing after the media turned against her. The message of the album is all about how she wants to spend the the ins and outs of life with people she loves, because they make the boring days beautiful, which is also the sentiment running throughout "Lover."

"I want your midnights, but I'll be cleaning up bottles with you on New Year's Day" and "We can leave the Christmas lights up 'til January" are the same!!

What are the Reputation Taylor's Version vault tracks?

A Horcrux from Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows: Part I

While we don't have the tracklist for Reputation (Taylor's Version) yet, she did mention in her TIME interview that the vault tracks will be "fire."

"I’m collecting horcruxes,” she says of the rerecordings. “I’m collecting infinity stones. Gandalf’s voice is in my head every time I put out a new one. For me, it is a movie now.”

I'm going to be real honest, this is the line that sent me into a tailspin because the idea that Taylor loves stories like Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, and the MCU as much as I do is too much!! But it makes sense because after all, she IS a storyteller.
