Wild Author Cheryl Strayed’s Sweet Story About Watching Gilmore Girls With Her Daughter Will Have You Misty-Eyed

There are SO many reasons that watching Gilmore Girlsis better as an adult, and one of the viewers who found that out firsthand just so happened to have a nod in the Netflix reboot herself.
Not only was author Cheryl Strayed’s novel “Wild” placed in a scene where Lorelai is reading, the show sees her character living out plenty of wild moments of her own in an homage to the book, in which Cheryl recounts an extended hiking trip following her own mother’s death.
Taking Netflix’s advice to watch the show with her own daughter, the author shared her story about experiencing those moments together on Instagram.
“Gobsmacked and honored by the Wild homage in @gilmoregirlsYear in the Life. I watched it yesterday with my daughter, Bobbi (who is named after my mother). Like so many people, in Lorelai and Rory I see pieces of myself, my mother and my daughter. That scene when Lorelai wanders behind the closed store and looks out across the wild landscape and then calls her mom? Took my breath away and made me cry (after laughing at so many other parts). I reached for my daughter’s hand and told her someday she’d understand why I was crying. She said, ‘I understand already mom.’ Amy Sherman-Palladino, Daniel Palladino, Lauren Graham, Alexis Bledel and all the people who made this show: Thank you. Y’all touched so many of our hearts.”

Okayyy, we’re not even already through the series yet and we’re tearing up (although we guess it MIGHT make sense that a woman who makes a living writing would be able to move us with her words, eh)?
