These 2 Celebs Rang In Their 30th With Non-Traditional Birthday Surprises You’ll Want to Try

While Aaliyah said it best, age ain’t nothing but a number, a couple of celebs rang in a milestone birthday over the weekend — their golden 30th birthdays. Yes, they BOTH turn 30 today on the 30th, but they celebrated all weekend long. Big Bang Theory star Kaley Cuoco celebrated her birthday with 12 of her best friends, while model, mom-to-be and cookbook author Chrissy Teigen had a party at the famous stand-up joint Comedy Cellar in NYC last night with husband John Legend and friends. For their 30ths, both celebs were properly surprised for their bdays, but not in the traditional sense. Of course, this is thanks to their loved ones putting their heads together and coming up with creative surprises.
Old school surprise parties are soo played out. For her 30th, Kaley Cuoco jumped on an airplane. Destination: unknown. The actresses posted this pic of herself in a party hat and a glass of wine along with the caption: “2 planes, 12 best friends, one 30th bday, destination unknown = priceless.”
Her best pals ended up surprising the animal lover by taking her to an wildlife animal sanctuary that rescues big cats and is maintained by the Black Jaguar White Tiger Foundation in Mexico. AWW. Look at those furry little faces! Clearly Kaley is smitten.
Meanwhile stateside, a pregnant Chrissy Teigen in a one-shoulder knockout dress had a party in NYC at iconic New York City comedy club Comedy Cellar (yes, the one from Louie) that included cake, John Legend and a very, very special and hilarious guest.
Her party featured a surprise two-hour, freestyle set from none other than Dave Chapelle. How’s that for a birthday gift? Her husband John Legend of course had a hand in arranging the surprise. He posted this photo of their funny guest along with the caption, “Chrissy’s birthday party on Saturday was pretty amazing. She wanted to celebrate her 30th with some of her favorite things: comedy, great food and good friends. So we took over the Comedy Cellar for the night, with the catering of @davidchang and the @momolongplay team. The Comedy Cellar helped us curate a talented group of comedians to make us laugh all night, and our surprise (to Chrissy, not to me) closer was the incomparable, brilliant Dave Chappelle. Thanks so much to Dave for his generosity. He freestyled for about two hours and it was genius. I’ve heard about his small club sets but this was the first time I was able to see it in person. He’s so good and we felt so fortunate to witness it.”
And no bday would be complete without a totally embarrassing birthday song being sung by an entire room. Of course, has John Legend be the one to croon it probably makes it about a million times less mortifying. Consider this the best rendition of “Happy Birthday” ever sung over a tower of birthday cupcakes. Swoon.
Happy birthday, queens!

It can be intimidating to step out on your own and build a business from the ground up. As part of our collaboration with Office Depot, we're talking with Selfmade alum and solopreneur Colette Lawrence, the faith-based motivator and relationship builder behind The M.E.E. Movement, about ways in which women in business can find success.
B + C: How did you know M.E.E. Movement was your business to start?
The M.E.E Movement represents motivation, empowerment, and encouragement for women. It is what represents me. I did not know at first that it was my business to start, but then the thought of monetizing what I loved came to me. It scared me, however. I registered the business in July 2020 and have been slowly building my wings since.
B + C: What's one strategy that's helped you start your business?
Thinking through and researching what the requirements are to start my business, and then asking questions of people who are in the business. Not all advice worked; however, it helped me to figure out what I needed to do and not to do.
B + C: Did you always know life coaching would be your entrepreneurial path?
(Smiles) No, I did not. I 'stumbled" on it. I knew that people were always coming to me for advice and I found that I loved having conversations with them, especially with women, young and old.
B + C: What was your most valuable takeaway from Selfmade?
My most valuable takeaway was the first day of training: Get out of your own way. There were a lot of great moments and important takeaways from every presenter. However, getting out of my own way, pushing past doubts, was for me my most valuable takeaway. Doing something that I had never done before took courage. If I do not focus on what is happening with me mentally then I cannot deliver to my clients successfully.
B + C: What's one piece of advice you would give to female entrepreneurs on the brink of starting?
Get out of your head. You have something to offer. You have what you need to succeed so go ahead and do it.
B + C: How do you stay motivated?
I stay motivated by listening to music and listening to motivational speakers, and sometimes someone will just reach out and talk about the impact that I made in their life. That adds the extra juice or sauce I need to pummel through the day.
B + C: What's your best organizational tip?
Keep a diary and journal. It's the best way for me to keep organized and it also provides a source motivation as I record not only my "losses" but my wins as well.
B + C: Who inspires you in the entrepreneurial space?
Shirley Toliver – She motivates and empowers and makes me always want to show up.
B + C: What has receiving the Office Depot scholarship to Selfmade done to help you start or grow your business?
The scholarship was a blessing in that all the areas that were covered offered valuable information that I needed, from social media to HR. As a new business owner, I needed to know this to increase my own personal awareness in what it takes to run a successful business. The candidness of the presenters made it easy to see myself in their shoes and helped me to realize that I can also get there.
