Pantone Obsessed? This DIY Patch Will Be Your Denim Jacket’s New BFF

We shamelessly anticipate the debut of the Pantone Color of the Year like others anticipate the unveiling of the next Bachelor. I mean, who DOESN’T fixate on the possible hues that will soon influence design and sartorial trends?! Really, what else are you going to do with your time? While we not-so-patiently wait for The Big News, we thought we’d pay homage to PCOTY 2K17 in true B+C fashion — with a DIY Pantone patch!

This iconic little guy is a cinch to make, and we’re digging its old-school vibes. Scroll on for the tutorial.

ICYMI, these are the frontrunners for Pantone 2K17! We’re partial to Island Paradise (#seafoam4ever), but TBH, *any* of these hues will make us real happy :)

Materials + Tools:

  • embroidery thread in Pantone color + black
  • felt or canvas
  • embroidery hoop
  • embroidery needle with a large eye
  • pin back
  • pen
  • hot glue gun + glue sticks
  • ruler

Instructions:

1. Draw a square on your felt or canvas, then frame it in your embroidery hoop. Using your Pantone-colored embroidery thread, fill the square with large stitches. Write the word “PANTONE” underneath this square, then stitch over the letters in black.

2. Draw a rectangle around both the square and the word “PANTONE” and cut along those lines.

3. Cut another rectangle from the felt. This will be the back of your patch. Glue the two pieces of felt together with a hot glue gun, pinching to seal. Then glue the pin back to the back swatch of felt. Let it dry. Voila!

Ta-da! The simplest patch you’ll ever make.

Pantone for President!

Best when paired with your favorite flair and a giddy grin :)
