Johnny Depp has never been one to shy away from getting into character — his commitment to Jack Sparrow, for instance, knew no bounds. Now promoting his reprised role as the Mad Hatter in Alice Through the Looking Glass (the first of nine live-action films Disney will release), Alice in Wonderland fans were in for the shock of their lives when the dedicated actor took over a seemingly normal billboard at Disneyland.

Interacting with unsuspecting park-goers via Livestream, the Mad Hatter came to life before guests’ very eyes with a bevy of “wondrous” antics.

Quickly noticing what appeared to be movement from the billboard, curious viewers instantly surrounded it, and Johnny waved and smiled. He then took things up a notch by addressing a member of the crowd by saying, “Why are you looking at me like that?”

Continuing his hijinx by whispering “Psst!” as unsuspecting people walked by and asking to fit some of his smaller fans for hats (“You have a wonderful cranium,”), Johnny’s fun peaked when he blew his nose and bubbles magically appeared from the sky. Get. Out!
