Kaitlyn Bristowe Gets Emotional as She Opens Up About Her Split from Shawn Booth
Bachelorette stars Kaitlyn Bristowe and Shawn Booth recently announced their breakup after three years together, and now Bristowe is opening up about the split in an emotional new episode of her podcast, Off the Vine With Kaitlyn Bristowe.
“It’s been a really hard few months now,” she said at the top of her latest episode, deciding to address the “big elephant in the room” right away. “I really did think we’d get through it.”
Bristowe admitted that the couple were at a “crossroads” in their relationship, which they realized on a recent trip to her home in Canada.
“To be honest, I thought we would choose the road where we would end up together,” she continued while starting to get choked up. “I just never took our commitment, or being engaged, lightly at all. I had the mindset of doing whatever it took to make it work. And now [I’m] realizing, maybe to a fault, with all the hard moments in life come life lessons, and that’s what I need to take from all of this. Sometimes you need to take a moment and take a step back to think about what you are fighting for and if it make sense for your long-term happiness.”
Booth proposed to Bristowe on The Bachelorette season 11 finale in 2015. The couple were vocal about their ongoing wedding plans within the past year, but rumors of a split started following them this summer. At the time, the couple denied they were breaking up, but Bristowe has now revealed that, despite the public nature of their relationship, it was something they needed to deal with on their own terms.
“It had to be on our timeline for our relationship and not what other people expected of us,” she said. “I want to reiterate to people, what you saw on social media was real and what we had was real love.”
Previously, Booth also addressed the breakup, posting a thank you to his supporters on social media. “From the bottom of my heart, thank you. It truly means a lot,” he wrote. “And thank you to everyone who has sent their love & support during this painful time. I love you guys.”
Now a few weeks past the couple’s joint statement confirming their breakup, Bristowe said she’s ready to move on to the next chapter in her life. “It’s a bump in the road,” she said. “Everyone is going to have blips their whole life. And it’s just how you choose to get through them. We are all stronger than we think we are.”
