Nikki Bella Posted a Heartbreaking Note on What Would Have Been Her 6th Anniversary With John Cena
Nikki Bella and John Cena called off their engagement back in April, but in the months that followed, they both spoke openly about wanting to work things out. Recently, though, Bella told E! News they were officially done. Today, August 10, which would have been the couple’s sixth anniversary, the reality star posted a cryptic message that seems like it could be meant for her ex.
“You’ve changed me forever,” the text-based image read. “And I’ll never forget you.” The caption on the photo consisted of the date — August 9 — and the number 6, seemingly signifying the number of years the couple, who began dating in 2012, would have been together had they not split.
Cena was also active on social media on Thursday, tweeting, “The promises you make mean nothing compared to those you keep.” Of course, the wrestler often posts similar thoughtful quotes, and — as with Bella — there’s no proof that the message was directed specifically at his ex.
The ups and downs of the former couple’s romance have played out very publicly in recent months. In July, Bella shared a YouTube video in which she addressed the state of their seemingly on-again, off-again engagement.
“I’ll admit my relationship, it has been a super emotional roller coaster ride,” she said. “And I think it’s hard for people to understand because we film and things get shown a few months after and I think people are like, ‘Are they together? Are they not?’ Right now, we’re just friends.”
Earlier this summer, there were reports that the two had reconciled. But in July, they went their separate ways again. “After I called off the engagement, we tried to work on our relationship to get back to where it was, and in order to move forward with our wedding,” she told E! News. “After much time and soul-searching alone and together, we have decided to officially part ways.”
