Zayn Malik Reveals the Sad but Sweet Inspiration Behind ‘Let Me’
Back in March, Zayn Malik and Gigi Hadid announced that they had split after more than two years of dating. But their relationship lives on in Malik’s music.
The singer called in to On Air With Ryan Seacrest on Friday, April 13, to promote his new single, “Let Me,” explaining that he wrote the song “about seven or eight months ago,” when he was still dating Hadid. “I was in love and I think that’s pretty evident. I was aspiring to be in love with someone for the rest of my life and the rest of theirs, as we all do,” he said. But he added, “Things change and we move forward in life.”
He also explained why he doesn’t regret writing the song about his now-ex, saying, “We go through experiences so we have memories and stories and things to write down and contemplate and think about. You get to really put your experience into something. It should be remembered forever.”
Malik then mentioned how thrilled he is to have the opportunity to perform the song — and his entire album — for fans when he heads out on the road. “I’ve been working on the album for just over a year. I wrote everything myself. I am super proud of it. And at the minute, I’m in rehearsals for my tour,” he shared. “I’m really excited for that and to finally get out there and perform onstage. It’ll be really cool.”
