Alicia Keys sparked a movement last year when the singer penned a letter explaining that she was going makeup free in an effort to show the world the “raw and real” self. While her choice inspired many, with other celebs such as Gabrielle Union and Kim Kardashian West quickly jumping onboard, others had a hard time coming to terms with the concept, as we saw when she showed up at the VMAs makeup-free.

Now, in a recent interview with Howard Stern, Adam Levine revealed that while he thought he had “caught” his The Voice co-star in the act when he walked in on her applying cosmetics (likely one of the three products which her beauty specialist revealed to W in January that she does, in fact, use), she had a response that put him in his place.

“She was putting on a little bit of makeup, and I was like, ‘Oh, yeah, I thought Alicia doesn’t wear makeup,’” Levine told the shock jock. “And she’s like, ‘I do what the f*ck I want.’” Boom!

And there you have it, folks! Keys may not be 100-percent makeup free, but she does make a good point that it’s a woman’s choice whether or not to use products to enhance her own inner beauty or to go bare, and we can certainly get on board with that.
