Sometimes, brides-to-be get time to plan out their unique or unconventional diamond rings. Often, the ring choice is out of the bride’s hands when her beloved plans a creative proposal, and that’s what happened with SNL star Aidy Bryant. In fact, Bryant’s fiancé Connor O’Mally planned such a surprise proposal that the bride-to-be didn’t even think his proposal was real.
During an interview on The Late Show with Seth Myers, Bryant told the story of how O’Mally proposed and why she thought he was completely joking. The couple have been together for nine years, and though they’ve spoken about marriage, the way the proposal happened was confusing for Bryant.
After a long day at work, Bryant walked into the door to see her dog dressed up in a bow tie. “I was like, ‘My dog doesn’t wear a bowtie! Where is he going tonight?'” Then, O’Mally came rushing around the corner dangling a ring in his hand asking if she would marry him. Of course, the scene was disheveled and confusing, which lead to Bryant thinking it was a joke. Once the dust settled, Bryant confirmed that in fact, the proposal was real and happily agreed.
But why the at-the-door proposal? Bryant said it’s because O’Mally understood that she’d probably want to be wearing a bra and makeup but also have it as a private affair at home. “It’s about a 40-second window before I get in the door and I rip off my mask and become a woman on the couch — so he did the right thing!”
