Wait, WTF Are Splash Masks?!

We’re all over the K-Beauty trends, from must-have sheet masks to facial essences. One we haven’t tried yet? Splash masks! This new skincare category is a total game-changer. While traditional face masks are a beauty-boosting — and certainly relaxing — self-care ritual, you have to dedicate a solid 20 to 30 minutes to really make them effective. If our iCal wasn’t jam packed with work meetings, workout classes, holiday parties and binge-watching Westworld (yes, that’s really in our iCal), we’d totally do a face mask every night. But since we live in reality — where we’re all a little strapped for time — our grand plan to cozy up with a good book and dedicate nearly half an hour to our skin doesn’t always happen.

1. Blithe Energy Yellow Citrus & Honey Splash Mask ($45): Kick dullness and uneven texture to the curb with this radiance-boosting formula. A combination of lactic acid, citrus extracts and honey gently exfoliates, moisturizes and brightens. Skin is left smooth and gorgeously glowy.

2. Blithe Soothing & Healing Green Tea Splash Mask ($45): Struggling with blemishes, redness and congested pores? Infused with green tea extract, salicylic acid, tea tree leaf oil and lactic acid, this liquid treatment soothes irritation, evens tone and reduces the appearance of discoloration and acne scars.

3. boscia Tsubaki Splash Mask ($38): Winter-ravaged skin is no match for this antioxidant-rich elixir. A hydrating cocktail of camellia and rice bran oils and betaine quenches thirsty complexions, promotes circulation and fights free-radicals.

Full disclosure: I don’t like doing at-home treatments. Things like waxing or micro-needling are things that I leave to the professionals: He or she has access to the right tools and and can perform the right techniques to give me the best results. I want to be accountable for nothing.

But I’ve always trusted Soko Glam; when I tried the 10-step Korean skincare routine with one of the brand’s curated sets a couple of years ago, my skin looked amazing, and I was hooked. So when Soko Glam decided to come out with its Easydew EX DW-EGF Derma Roller Program Special Kit ($93), I figured it was worth a try. I am — as I assume most people are — willing to do almost anything to get that elusive, naturally dewy skin.

What Is Derma Rolling?

“Derma rolling is the process of using micro needles attached to a roller and passing it over the skin,” says dermatologist Kavita Mariwalla. It’s done, she says, to tighten the skin and help decrease the appearance of pores. It can also help improve the skin’s texture, especially for people with acne scars. Best of all, it’s suitable for all skin types. For those interested in a treatment, you can either go to a dermatologist to get it done, or use an at-home kit like Soko Glam’s.

How To Use The Kit

The kit contains seven ampoules, each filled with the Easydew EX ingredient, and a derma rolling device with a needle puff made with hyaluronic acid and a dissolving micro-needling treatment designed not to irritate the skin. Easydew EX contains the highest purity of EFG, a protein that stimulates cell turnover rate and brightens the skin to ensure you get that dewy, smooth complexion.

Since it’s recommended for use at night, I integrated the ampoules and the derma roller into my evening routine. Essentially, you use your normal cleanser and toner before spreading the ampoule all over your face and neck. You then finish up with your nighttime moisturizer to lock everything in. You only use the derma roller once: The needle puff that it comes should be thrown away after you’re done with it. You can pick which day you want to use the device; I decided to do it the first night I started the kit.

For the night you choose to derma roll, you first open the ampule and spread half of it all over your face and neck. The product has a thick consistency, but it seeps into the skin after you let it set for about a minute. Once you’ve attached the needle puff to the device, you roll it gently and evenly across your face for 15-20 minutes. Rolling tiny needles across your face is a weird sensation, and I’m not going to lie: It kind of hurt. I’ve never had the highest tolerance for pain, so I rolled the device slowly to make it more comfortable and played my favorite song (Ella Mai’s “Boo’d Up,” in case you were wondering) four times to make the time go by faster. Once I finished, I put the rest of the ampoule all over my face and neck. It was very soothing, and it instantly eased any lingering pain I had from the derma roller. I finished with an overnight mask to really calm my skin.

The Results

I noticed a difference in my skin’s appearance almost immediately. Two days into the process, my skin felt so much smoother, and my dull complexion looked brighter. My skin glistened on its own (insert praise be emoji), and I found myself not needing my highlighter or under eye concealer. I just put on put on my tinted moisturizer with SPF and eyeliner on my bottom lash line, and I was out the door.

For further validation that the treatment was indeed working, I went to a beauty event mid-week where a celebrity makeup artist tasked to give me a touch-up gave me one of the best compliments I’ve received in a while. “You look absolutely glowing,” he said. “I barely have to do a thing.” Safe to say, this is one at-home treatment I can’t wait to do again.

Would you try this device at home? Tell us @britandco!

They also keep their relationship pretty private. Here's the latest news on it.

“It was quite strange and weird and confusing and invasive,” Zendaya agrees. “I think loving someone is a sacred thing and a special thing and something that you want to deal with and go through and experience and enjoy amongst the two people that love each other."

April 9, 2024 — Zendaya Raves About Tom Holland

In her Vogue cover story for May 2024, Zendaya talks a lot about how fame has affected both her life and Tom Holland's. “His [career] changed overnight. One day you’re a kid and you’re at the pub with your friends, and then the next day you’re Spider-Man,” she says. “I definitely watched his life kind of change in front of him. But he handled it really beautifully.”

That star power was evident in 2022, when Tom Holland and Zendaya spent the afternoon at the Louvre in Paris...and almost broke the internet. “You just kind of get used to the fact that, 'Oh, I’m also one of these art pieces you’re going to take a picture of. I just gotta be totally cool with it and just live my life,'" Zendaya continues. (She also says that when the museum let them walk around after-hours, "it was like Night at the Museum.”)

The latest viral clip about Tom Holland and Zendaya also has to do with Challengers. During another Challengers press tour stop, Zendaya's overjoyed to be presented with a bouquet of gardenias. “These are my favorite flowers!” she exclaims. When asked if Tom Holland buys her flowers, she points at the camera and jokes, “I hope he's watching!”

This post has been updated.

Korea has become the world’s skincare capital, and there are plenty of reasons why. It has not only introduced us to unique ingredients like snail slime but also a number of new beauty techniques, including the 7 Skin Method and the recent glass skin phenomenon. While many K-Beauty trends rely heavily on the products you place on top of your skin, the latest must-try regimen is all about taking a closer look at skin health (and what will boost it) overall. So, without further ado, allow us to introduce you to cloudless skin. Or, rather, the beauty routine that promises a clear, glowing complexion so long as you stick to it.

We’ve come to know the glass-skin trend for focusing on creating a flawless, radiant, dewy finish that can appear poreless and shiny like glass. Despite that ultra-sleek finish, it can also gloss over any imperfections that might be lying underneath. Cloudless skin, on the other hand, refers to a nearly transparent, radiant, and blemish-free visage that is achieved from the inside out. “Cloudless skin is a term used to refer to the ultimate skin condition — total health and wellness radiated from within and out,” explains Audrey Kunin, board-certified dermatologist and founder of DERMADoctor. “It is the abbreviated version of ‘not a cloud in the sky,’ or in other words, not a flaw to be seen.”

Build Beauty from Within

Scoring that kind of pristine skin might sound impossible, thanks to environmental factors like UV rays, airborne pollution, and stress that our skin is exposed to daily. However, if you think about it as more of a 360-degree approach, it’s totally doable. To get that glow from within to show up on your outside, the experts advise getting your health in gear, starting with what’s on your plate and in your glass.

According to Debra Jaliman, assistant clinical professor of Dermatology at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, a balanced diet of fruits, vegetables rich in greens, as well as foods with a low glycemic index, and lean protein is essential to feeding skin what it needs to thrive. That means staying away from processed foods — yup, we’re talking about your junk food stash — and foods high in sugar, salt, and dairy that can do a number on your skin. “Sugar glycates the collagen and stiffens it, and this ages the skin,” she says. “Also, if you drink a lot of alcohol and use those calories for alcohol instead of healthy food, then you are depriving your skin of nutrients and vitamins.” You should also consider cutting down on the caffeine, as it can not only dehydrate you but also causes your blood vessels to constrict, limiting the amount of nourishment and antioxidants that get pumped throughout the body. And, of course, keep your water bottle on hand to sip throughout the day so your skin stays hydrated and clear.

Stress is one of the biggest contributing factors when it comes to acne as well as any signs of aging that can blemish your cloudless skin. Papri Sarkar, a board-certified dermatologist based in Brookline, MA, says, “Stress causes an increase in the hormone cortisol, which makes skin oilier and leads to more breakouts.” While it might seem impossible to eliminate (especially in these times), New Jersey-based dermatologist Adriana Lombardi argues that yoga could help manage it and keep skin as bright as a sunny day.

Revamp Your Regimen… Slowly

Of course, your skincare routine could help you achieve that flawless finish, but it’s not about getting a quick fix. Cloudless skin really comes down to consistency and creating a routine that targets dullness, clogged pores, irritation, and environmental damage. “Proper cleansing, exfoliating your skin religiously, along with protecting your skin from the sun, and using products that deeply hydrate your skin and seal in moisture is a way of getting that cloudless skin look,” Jaliman explains.

So regardless of where you decide to tweak to your routine, it’s important to make the switch slowly to avoid causing any inflammatory reactions. As Kunin says, “I always recommend making a few changes at a time rather than everything at once. That way, should any issue arise, it is simpler to identify its cause.”

One easy way to start is by keeping your skin balanced and free of debris. “To prevent blemishes the big things still hold: effective gentle cleansing in addition to targeting and preventing dark spots, dullness, and acne,” says Sarkar. “A double cleanse works really well to cleanse the skin to prep it for the steps ahead.” That’s why face washes like Cetaphil’s Gentle Skin Cleanser (above, $14) or Neutrogena’s Ultra Gentle Hydrating Creamy Facial Cleanser ($8) are key to taking off the day without stripping the skin. If you’re a makeup maven in need of an oil cleanser to double cleanse daily, Sarkar approves of Sulwhasoo Gentle Cleansing Oil EX ($38) for normal, dry, or combination skin, or DHC Deep Cleansing Oil ($14) for normal or oily types.

Brighten Things Up

There are many routes to getting brighter, clearer skin. Jaliman suggests using exfoliating toners like La Roche-Posay Effaclar Micro-Exfoliating Astringent Skin Toner ($23) to keep pores clear and even tone, though you can use other formulas that contain witch hazel, willow bark, or gentle acids. “These [toners] help fight acne and are gentle exfoliants,” she says, noting that ingredients like glycerin, aloe vera, and rose water help those with acne as well as dry skin types.

Vitamin C serums can also ramp up your radiance and undo environmental damage that can cloud up your skin, like using Cosrx Triple C Lightning Liquid (above, $27), Skinceuticals C E Ferulic ($166), or even E.L.F. Cosmetics’s Beauty Shield Vitamin C Pollution Prevention Serum ($16). Hydroquinone, which you can find in Ambi’s Fade Cream ($6) or Pond’s Correcting Cream Clarant B3 Dark Spot Correcting Cream ($6), is another ingredient option for erasing dark spots easily.

But retinoids are the fastest route to cloudless skin, as they not only help fade dark spots but also kickstart collagen and increase cell turnover. But like hydroquinone, retinoids need to be incorporated slowly into your routine, lest you run the risk of a bad reaction. “Changing your skin care too quickly or drastically can leave your skin irritated,” Lombardi explains, noting she prefers the more potent prescription retinoids compared to the over-the-counter options like RoC’s Retinol Correxion Deep Wrinkle Anti-Aging Facial Serum ($16) or Ole HenriksenGlow Cycle Retin-ALT Power Serum ($58). “Specifically, adding a retinol too quickly can irritate the skin. Hydroquinone can also have irritating effects on the skin.”

Moisturize and Protect

All that brightening won’t mean much if you don’t keep your skin protected with a daily dose of SPF. After all, many of those treatments can leave skin more prone to sun damage and can make matters worse if you don’t slather on a sunscreen to protect it. The experts advise keeping a formula like Farmacy’s Green Screen SPF 30 ($36) or Neutrogena Sheer Zinc Sunscreen SPF 50 ($9) on hand for daily use in order to prevent the sun from fogging over your flawless face.

Even still, the real work begins when you’re ready to go to bed “Your cells regenerate themselves while you sleep,” Jaliman says. “Your skin is most able to absorb topical treatments, and DNA repair is boosted while you sleep.” In fact, many of the P.M. moisturizers come packed with reparative ingredients that can give your snooze a serious boost. Scan the labels for hydrating ingredients like hyaluronic acid, ceramides, glycerin, and squalene that’ll illuminate your skin even further once you wake up, like Dr. Jart’s Ceramidin Cream ($48) or Aveeno’s Absolutely Ageless Restoring Night Cream ($22). DERMAdoctor’s new Lucky Bamboo Jukyeom 9x Water Gel (above, $54) uses purple roasted-bamboo salt crystals from Korea, which are the result of a thousand-year-old process, to create that cloudless look easily.

As if you needed more reasons to snag a good night’s rest (you know, other than your sanity), the derms say that getting less than seven to eight hours of shut-eye is associated with increased signs of aging, a poor skin barrier function, and even people feeling more self conscious about the way they look. So if you want to wake up with cloudless skin, slather on your skincare essentials and get to snoozing early enough to get the recommended amount of rest. Hey, it’s called beauty sleep for a reason!

We're thrilled to kick off our new Jetset Journeys series, where we turn the best U.S. cities to explore this year into our own personal playgrounds. This is not just a travel guide but a way to spark your creativity and your wanderlust for weekend and week-long travel. Pack your bags , join us here every week, and get jetsetty this summer.

When you think of romantic destinations, you probably envision secluded beach getaways, remote mountain cabins with a roaring fire, or luxurious suites in a historic Parisian hotel. These options definitely qualify as romantic, but the truth is that most of us can’t travel into quite such another world on a regular basis… much less within a two-day timeframe.

Exploring a new city stateside can be uber romantic, if you know what to do with your time. Here are our top five cities for a romantic couple’s getaway closer to home, one that’s sure to be just as exciting and intimate as any dreamy honeymoon-esque destination.

Chicago

Photo by Aveedibya Dey on Unsplash

A fantastic city for old-fashioned American romance is Chicago. With its sweeping architecture, beautiful parks and lakefront views, this city is not to be underestimated if romance is your goal.

Photo: Beatrix

Start your first morning off at a classic brunch destination like Beatrix or The Bongo Room, both of which are sought out weekend after weekend by Chicago couples.

Art Institute of Chicago | Photo: Shutterstock

Next, take a stroll along Chicago’s Riverwalk, where you’ll find yourself gazing up at the incredible skyscrapers for which the Chicago School of architecture is known. If you’re really into history and design, the Chicago Architecture River Cruise Tour is not to be missed - you’ll float down the Chicago River (yes, drinks are available), and gaze up at the city from the center of its famous waterways.

Next, check out one of Chicago’s many amazing museums. The Museum Campus, located right along the lakefront, is home to the world-famous Art Institute of Chicago, the Shedd Aquarium, and the Field Museum. Oh, and did we mention the Adler Planetarium, where you can cuddle up and gaze up at the stars together?

Finish off your day with a stroll along Navy Pier, where you can kiss atop the Ferris Wheel while taking in breathtaking nighttime views of the city.

Spend your second day touring Chicago’s most interesting neighborhoods on foot. Head to Old Town for gorgeous historic homes and a super-walkable, classic city vibe, or opt for Logan Square if hipsters and arcade bars are more your speed.

San Francisco

San Francisco’s natural landscape and architecture, with its rolling hills and European-feeling streets and architecture, makes it a serious contender for the most beautiful city in the U.S.

Start off your first day with a pastry from Tartine, or grab a meal at a charming cafe like Mama’s on Washington Square. San Francisco’s food and wine scene is truly its own culture, so don’t be surprised if you grab some extra items to-go.

Next, head to the Embarcadero and take in the waterfront views, or hit up the iconic Golden Gate Park for a classic attraction you won’t want to miss. Spots like the Japanese Tea Garden, Conservatory of Flowers, and Stow Lake serve up beauty and romance in heaps.

Home decor trends come and go but some of them stand the test of time, and good designers seem to capture exactly where that line is drawn. Shawn and Tina Taylor, the adorable husband-and-wife dream team behind L.A. design firm Dacotah Studio, create stylish, comfortable homes that feel timeless and effortlessly put together.

The pair met at the bakery Bread Lounge in downtown LA, at separate tables. "We struck up a conversation and found out we were in industries that mirrored one another. Shawn was doing customization for brands and I was working in fashion," says Tina. (The bakery catered their daughter's first birthday.) Now Tina brings her eye for design while Shawn manages their interior projects for Dacotah, like their latest project in the eclectic Silver Lake neighborhood, where they had their first date. They beautifully remodeled a home built in 1938 for a modern family and it offers so much inspiration.

BEFORE

Before the remodel, the home left A LOT to be desired -- think boob lighting and icky yellow walls. The double doors shown here are mid-century cool but the entry design is pretty sad and dated. Tina and Shawn truly modernized it and created a sanctuary for the couple and their baby.

AFTER

Their inspiration? "Tulum! Our clients were so excited about this specific area and were inspired by Mexico. They love postmodernism design and they are a bit of a maximalist at heart," says Tina. "We wanted to keep the design pretty neutral so we could balance the design and art."

Here's the entry now -- amazing, right?! The whole house feels serene and tailored while embracing the beautiful LA weather and views. Shawn and Tina used earthy, natural materials to keep it timeless and took advantage of the terraced hillside for planting and lounging with drought-tolerant plants.

Here are 12 ideas I took away from their gorgeous design that I'll be bringing into my own home, or future home!

Home Decor Ideas À La Dacotah Studio

'70s Modern

"We wanted to preserve the older architectural details, which had tons of character and charm and looked beautiful with the newer materials we selected," says Shawn. I'm loving these classic modern sofas in a pop of orange. The OGs were designed by Michel Ducaroy for Ligne Roset in the 1970s and go for more than $5K but you can find more affordable options inspired by the original. The color scheme here is on point without feeling overly trendy.

"If you are going to play with trends, do it in a way that can be swapped out every so often (e.g., rugs, artwork, accent chairs), rather than going too trendy on the hard materials like countertops, tiles, etc," says Tina. The coffee table they found vintage in Palm Springs and the artwork is designed by pop artist Steve Harrington.

Sculptural Lamps

Lamps can make such an impact in a room. This black table lamp from Jonathan Entler stands out like an art piece, as does this Hem Puffy chair. This Wayfair sculptural table lamp and Article lounge chair have a similar effect at a lower price point. We can't all afford high-end pieces but a few key pieces here and there that we love is also a good investment.

Transitional Flooring

"We used earthy. natural materials, mimicking the Yucatan/Tulum region of Mexico," says Tina. The porcelain kitchen flooring transitions to maple wood flooring throughout the home. I love the lighter natural woods mixed with the stucco and stone, creating unique moments that separate the spaces.

Wishbone Chairs

The first time I saw Hans Wegner's Wishbone Chair (1949) I was smitten. I have two chairs inspired by the original that I splurged on more than a decade ago at HD Buttercup. They are the pieces I still hold on to and always get compliments on — a true test of a classic design that never goes out of style.

Maple Cabinets

There's so much to love here: the durable Taj Mahal Quartzite slab tile, the vertical window that frames the hedges, the clean-lined shelf, and the continuation of maple on the cabinets. "The kitchen cabinets were maple wood and the stain was natural, which was more cost-effective while maintaining that beautiful, natural look," says Tina.

Outdoor Living

I will never not buy or rent a home that doesn't have tons of natural light. I love how the kitchen feels seamless with the outdoors, bringing in tons of light but also making it easier to entertain outdoors. The pendants echo the table lamp in the living room while the rope-backed bar stools are total Tulum vibes.

William Sonoma Cambria stool has a similar aesthetic. This trio pendant by Plato is also a showstopper.

Warm Bedding

I'm slowing phasing out of my blue phase. These mix-and-match organic sheets from Morrow Goods are a warmer upgrade.

Built-In Shelves

Built-in shelves are looking more sleek these days. This curved maple built-in continues the design story in such a stunning way.

Bath Planters

Bring the outdoors in...to your bath. Love this built-in planter for bringing clean-air plants into your self-care haven. The zig-zag tile is also a dreamy effect.

Terrazzo

I'm been obsessed with terrazzo for quite some time and adore how they use it here on the flooring. The speckled colors are just *speechless* and add an unexpected design element to the whole serene aesthetic. Never boring!

Brass

This whole look just slays but I especially love the brass bath towel bar inside the shower, creating more of a spa-like feeling inside. Also a ceramic vase with flowers are especially lovely for you or your guests.

Asymmetry

I love the organic effect of this brass mirror and clay pendants — as Spanish architect Antonio Gaudi said, "There are no sharp corners in nature." West Elm has a similar mirror design you can shop, too.
