We need to talk about weather apps for a sec. I don’t know about you guys, but my iPhone’s built-in weather app has been spewing nonsense lately. For instance, just last week, a massive Florida thunderstorm was booming outside, to the point where I was terrified a palm tree was going to crash through my house. The wind was howling, the thunder was clapping, and the hailstorm caused a serious panic for my dogs, who are usually fearless when it comes to loud noises.
Curious to see when the brutal storm would be over so my pets could feel safe again, I opened my iPhone’s built-in weather app, only to see that, according to its report, the skies were perfectly clear and normal. According to the weather report on my iPhone, there were simply a few clouds in the sky, with some warnings of a light drizzle. Um, excuse me? Light drizzle? In what world was I experiencing a light drizzle?
That’s when I knew I could no longer rely on my iPhone’s built-in weather app. We’ve had a great run together over the last decade or so, but I guess all good things must come to an end.

As I’ve mentioned, my pets are terrified of lightning and thunder, so I like to be extremely prepared for storms in order to ensure my furry friends feel calm and protected. Yet in order to properly do so, I need a solid heads-up first. That’s where Lightning Tracker comes in, to offer the best info and accuracy specifically for lightning and storms.

Here’s an interesting one: this weather app is smartly designed to let users know when it’s safest to go outside based on UV sun exposure. As someone who spends most of her year living in tropical weather, one of my goals for 2025 was to be more mindful of sun exposure. This app (thankfully) does just that. Plus, it lets you know the best time to tan, so you can safely get that sun-kissed glow. Sign me up!
