First things first, tell us a little bit about yourself and your company’s mission?
My name is Megan and I live in Seattle. I make fun little things, often out of food, and share instructions on my website Not Martha.
Why did you decide to start Not Martha?
I started my site Not Martha as a place to keep notes on projects in 2001 and I basically never stopped.
When did you first realize you love to make? When did you realize you could do this full-time?
I studied set and costume design in college but afterwards worked building websites. After sitting at a desk crafting and creating unique solutions for my tiny San Francisco apartment became a real desire. I’d think up ideas all day and go make them in the evenings.
What’s one piece of advice you’d share with other makers?
Don’t be afraid to be enthusiastic, even over the smallest of things.
What other creative hobbies do you have?
Knitting, I always have at least two projects going but I never seem to finish anything. I suspect I like learning new knitting techniques more than I like the final objects.
My favorite holiday tradition is… unpacking ornaments to decorate the house. I love rediscovering the ones that have been passed down through generations of family.
No holiday meal is complete without… a seasonal pie. My family makes a mean osgood pie and I look forward to it every year.
My favorite thing to make during the holidays is… cookies for exchanges, it’s a lot of fun to make huge batches and get an assembly line going.
Deck the halls with… lots of twinkly lights, they never fail to charm me.
My favorite holiday movie is… Bernard and the Genie.
