People, the holidays are just about here! And while we’ll happily look for any excuse to hang a garland up in our homes, the holidays are really where it’s at in the garland department. While we love the traditional popcorn and tinsel, here are a few more unconventional options for DIY decor this year.

14 DIY Holiday Garlands for Your Home

People, the holidays are just about here! And while we’ll happily look for any excuse to hang a garland up in our homes, the holidays are really where it’s at in the garland department. While we love the traditional popcorn and tinsel, here are a few more unconventional options for DIY decor this year.

Mini Present Garland

Itty bitty presents? Love these! This could also make for a cool unconventional advent calendar (via Oh Happy Day)

Paper Stars Garland

How cool are these paper stars? We’ve seen lots of paper craft involving repurposed magazines and what not, but these are one of the most clean, crisp, and graphic projects we’ve ever seen. (via My Poppet)

Printable Pennant Flag Banners

We made these printables last year, and they’re still kicking around at my apartment where we shot this very image ;) (via Brit + Co.)

Color Block Ornament Garland

Color blocking is always our jam, and this sort of muted Christmas color palette is a lovely option for a less glittery holiday. For something more temporary, you could create a similar garland with balloons. (via Sugar and Cloth)

White Felt Holly Garland

This one is definitely a labor of love, as cutting out each felt holly leaf would take quite a few hours. (via Pam Garrison)

Winter Wonderland Garland

We love the idea of making a super long garland like this and hanging it in a meandering fashion through the office. (via A Subtle Revelry)

Paper Strip Garland

This garland legit took 10 minutes to make, if that. Cut a bunch of paper strips, sew ’em together, and you’re done. (via Brit + Co.)

Christmas Ribbon Garland

Now that’s a great way to repurpose ribbon from past holidays. (via Pretty Providence)

Fabric Scrap Garland

You can make this garland out of fabric scraps, or stock up on fat quarters (available cheaply at most fabric stores) and make a whole bunch for your friends. (via MK Inspired)

Painted Pasta Garland

It’s a pasta garland, for real, and somehow it doesn’t look like it came from a kindergarten art class. (via Agus Yornet)

Cookie Tin Garland

Got a whole bunch of pretty cookie tins and nothing to do with them? Turn them into glitzy metal garlands that will easily stand the test of time. (via Creating Really Awesome Free Things)

Ornament Garland

Brit made this sparkly garland for her home last year, and it’s definitely making an appearance in her new place this year! (via Brit + Co.)

Santa Reindeer Garland

We love everything about this scene. The silhouette art, the striped and Santa-patterned pillows, and, of course, the reindeer running across the mantel. (via The Proper Pinwheel)

“Awesome” Clay Letter Garland

Why not end on an awesome note? This is a garland for any time of year. (via Oh Happy Day)
