Hilarie Burton and Sophia Bush Helped a ‘One Tree Hill’ Fan Pull off the Sweetest Proposal
One Tree Hill has been off the air for seven years now, but it still has a fair amount of devoted diehards. Recently, Hilarie Burton and Sophia Bush helped two of those lucky fans with a marriage proposal they’ll never forget.
“Ten years ago I discovered One Tree Hill and it changed my life,” Alison Briggs shared on Instagram. “A lot of people don’t seem to understand that, so I always tell them about how it comforted me in my darkest hours, and how it gave me a place to call home.”
It was through One Tree Hill and its fandom, in fact, that Briggs met her partner, Cydney Childers. So when she decided to pop the question to Childers, she knew it had to happen at a charity event in Wilmington, North Carolina, where Bush, Burton, and several other OTH stars were scheduled to appear.
“Now when I tell people about how One Tree Hill changed my life, I’ll tell them about how it led me to you,” she wrote in her post, tagging Childers. Briggs then added a heart and a diamond ring emoji as she shared the good news.
“Today was an absolute dream come true,” she continued. “After months of planning and stressing and wanting the perfect proposal, it ended up being better than I ever could’ve imagined. THANK YOU SO MUCH @hilarieburton @sophiabush and @fwbcharityevents for helping me propose to the love of my life — I can guarantee this is a moment we will never forget.”
In an accompanying video, Briggs and Childers can be seen posing for photos with Burton and Bush in front of set decorations with their character names from the show, Peyton and Brooke.
“It’s hard to hear but I asked Hilarie what her favorite quote from the show is,” Briggs wrote, “and (as planned) she said, ‘Six billion people in the world. Six billion souls. And sometimes, all you need is one.'”
Briggs then got down on one knee and popped the question to Childers, who was clearly shocked. After she said yes, Bush could be seen wiping away some tears — which, same. Congrats to the happy couple!
