Whodunnit? I'm about to find out! 🔎
BritBox's Crime Comedy 'Ludwig' Is Perfect For 'Only Murders In The Building' Lovers!

Being a twin is such an interesting thing. Imagine looking into an exact mirror image of yourself or always having that crazy connection with your sibling, no matter how far apart you are from each other.
Or perhaps you might even consider switching places (like in The Parent Trap), pretending to be your twin for whatever reason suits you. This is the premise of the new British TV show Ludwig, a crime comedy directed by Robert McKillop and Jill Robertson.
We know one thing for sure: if you love British TV, Only Murders in the Building, and a good mystery, then you'll definitely love Ludwig. It's a show that's definitely worth checking out, whether you're a twin or not.

What is 'Ludwig' about?

British comedian, writer, and actor David Mitchell stars as John Taylor, a quiet and reserved puzzle setter (a person who comes up with crosswords and puzzles for magazines and newspapers, which is a neat job). John does everything under the pen name of Ludwig, which is how the show got its name.

John's reclusive, and he hardly leaves his house. He is perfectly happy that way until he is called out unexpectedly to Cambridge (the city, not the university) by his sister-in-law. The mission? To impersonate his twin brother James, who is coincidentally the Detective Chief Inspector of the Cambridge Police Department. Jonn has to get to the bottom of what happened to James, who has unexpectedly vanished.

The plan laid out by John's sister-in-law is simple: impersonating his twin brother James, John must gain access to James' workplace and search for evidence that points to where James is. While doing this, he must also keep up appearances as James, working on various homicide investigations that his twin brother would be tackling.
This is where his puzzle setter skills come in handy. John is hesitant to accept the mission, but then he caves, thinking he can, at the very least, dig through James' computer to find some clues to piece together what happened to him.

Ludwig is an intriguing whodunit, and I definitely recommend it. While the premise might seem like your average run-of-the-mill crime show, it's so much more than that. Mitchell's acting is a refreshing take and, quite honestly, makes the crime comedy very entertaining to watch. With news of season two coming, this BritBox show is a guaranteed to be your next TV obsession.

Aside from starring David Mitchell as the lead, Anna Maxwell Martin (AKA Leanne Fitz-Amobi from A Good Girl's Guide to Murder) is John's sister-in-law and James' wife, Lucy. Others in the cast include a list of new and familiar faces, like Ralph Ineson and Sophie Willan, to start. You will also see some fun guest stars pop up here and there, like Derek Jacobi (you'll probably know him from Gladiator II), who plays a kooky maths professor (fans of the much-loved British series Doctor Who might also recognize the name).
How many seasons of 'Ludwig' are there?

Right now there's only one season of Ludwig...but not for long! David Mitchell confirmed that they're working on Ludwig season 2 during a Radio Times interview.

Thankfully, we're getting Ludwig season 2 — but we still aren't sure when the new season is set to debut. According to TV Insider, the US audience will likely be able to stream season 2 about six months after the UK audience.
