I’ve had the biggest crush on Jonathan Groff ever since I first got my hands on the Spring Awakening soundtrack over a decade ago. So when I heard the Broadway actor was starring in a serial killer drama as the top FBI agent in the 1970s, I was… well, a bit perplexed. I’m so used to Groff portraying whimsical roles in bubbly musicals (Frozen, Glee) that I was shocked to hear he was taking on such a dark, serious part. But when I finally watched Mindhunter, I understood why it’s widely considered one of the best Netflix shows of all time. If you’re looking for a series that explores the life of an empathetic FBI Agent tackling the biggest monster serial killers of the decade, Mindhunter is your show. Fair warning: it’s not for the faint of heart.

OMG, you guys. When I tell you, this was one of the cutest, most lighthearted romantic comedies that I have ever seen. This underrated series is especially beloved by New Yorkers, since it explores all the most iconic places the city has to offer. The most fun part? The bulk of the story centers around the Strand bookstore. New York Bookworms, unite! Sure, it’s a holiday romance, and sure, it’s currently July. But who doesn’t love a Christmas/Hanukkah story in the middle of summer? If you want a Netflix show that’ll leave you saying “Awww” every five minutes, Dash and Lily is your ideal binge.

Love is Blind: Sweden
I know we’ve all watched the American version of Love is Blind through the cracks of our fingers, but I’m telling you, the Swedish version is a gazillion times better. And this is coming from someone who loves the US version! If you can’t get enough of the messy romance drama/bubbling tensions/shocking betrayals with a beautiful Swedish backdrop, you’re going to adore Love is Blind, Sweden. I know I do.

All I want to do is gab about The Sandman with my friends, but whenever I try, they have no idea (literally no idea) what the heck I’m talking about. That’s why I’m adding this hidden Netflix gem to the list. The Sandman, based on the comic books, centers around Dream, a man who has the ability to control the dreams of others. But what happens when he’s captured by evil forces and taken prisoner for over a century? Madness, that’s what. Fans adore the stunning cinematography, original premise, and brilliant acting. If you love fantasy, The Sandman, in its second season this month, is perfect for you.

Looking for a good laugh and already binged all your comfort comedies? Derry Girls is honestly the perfect watch! I can't get over how good this show is. Even though it only ran for two seasons, Glow — starring Alison Brie (Apples Never Fall) and Betty Gilpin (American Primeval) — was comedy gold. It's about a misfit group of women wrestlers who change the face of the sport, one wildly creative show at a time. I absolutely loved this show, and desperately wish we could get more seasons!
