See Your 'Ransom Canyon' Favorite In This New Coming-Of-Age Romance

When it comes to romance books, I often have very polarizing reactions once I finish reading the very last page. I’ll either A. become the president of the book's fan club (or go out of my way to make a fan club if it doesn't exist), or B. I chuck the book at my wall in anger and give it a 1-star on Goodreads. There’s basically no in between. It’s one or the other.

I think this is because it’s so easy to mess up the romance genre, since it’s low-key one of the hardest genres in fiction to write. I know it doesn’t seem like that would be the case, but I’m of the opinion that creating characters with genuine chemistry that lasts for over 200 pages is no easy feat. In fact, it’s a carefully calculated recipe that requires so many specific ingredients, like you're baking a complicated cake. Yet if one single ingredient is missing, the entire cake is ruined. You know what I mean? Essentially, what I’m trying to say is that it’s hard to write a likable romance book.

Cue, Easy, the novel by Tammara Webber, which was nominated for a Goodreads Choice Award in 2012 after its initial release. It became a New York Times Best Seller, and for very good reason. From the first chapter alone, I was instantly hooked. I found myself fully rooting for the lead couple, Jacqueline and Lucas, in a way I haven’t experienced since Elizabeth Bennett and Mr. Darcy while reading Pride and Prejudice. Yeah, it’s that good, people. And the great news is we're getting a new onscreen adaptation! Keep reading for all the details.

Here's everything you need to know about Tammara Webber's Easy movie.

What is the story Easy by Tammara Webber about?

Jacqueline (Lizzy Greene) is a college freshman who's trying to rebuild what's left of her life after a tragedy. And even though Lucas (Harry Collett) might come from a troubled past, he steadies her.

The book deals with pretty triggering topics, but it does so in a way that feels sensitive to readers and survivors of such experiences. The way Lucas creates such a protective and affectionate environment for Jacqueline during her darkest hour is so beautiful to watch unfold that I ended up full-on ugly crying. Every step of the way, I found myself swooning at Jacqueline and Lucas’s romance, which is presented as so far off from the typical cookie-cutter couples we’re all used to encountering in this genre of literature.

Despite the fact that Jacqueline and Lucas might appear to be each other’s polar opposites on the surface, their relationship somehow comes together in a way that almost feels like two odd puzzle pieces pairing together seamlessly. At the end of the day, they are the perfect fit.

When is Easy coming out?

We don't have a release date yet, but you'll be the first to know when we do.

Since I’m such a shameless megafan of Easy by Tammara Webber, I literally screamed with excitement when I saw the news that it is in the works to be adapted for TV. And the casting announcement? Chefs kiss. Ransom Canyon star Lizzy Greene will portray the role of Jacqueline, while Harry Collett will portray Lucas. I couldn’t imagine more perfect casting. Genius!

“We optioned Easy many years ago as we adored Tammara’s book and we are very proud to bring this project to life with Luke at the helm and we couldn’t have imagined a better Jacqueline and Lucas in Lizzy and Harry,” producer Ryan Hamilton told Deadline.

“I’m thrilled to have Lizzy and Harry take my lead characters from page to screen under Luke’s skilled guidance and vision. What a spectacular team,” Webber added.
