Harry Styles May Have Just Leaked His Solo Release Date and Twitter Is Losing Its Mind
Despite the indefinite hiatus One Direction is currently on, we’ve been hearing plenty from the 1D boys, with this week being especially action-packed: Zayn Malik released THE song of the summer and Liam Payne became the proud papa of a baby boy. Refusing to be outdone, it’s Harry Styles that now has the Interwebs freaking out thanks to a super mysterious 30-second teaser vid.
First airing during a The Voice commercial break in Britain, the clip showcases Styles walking through some dark smoke, making his way to a mysterious door, which he opens to reveal a huge ray of light. The camera then cuts from the 23-year-old’s tattooed arm to his enchanting green eyes, and then, darkness. “April 7th” flashes on the screen, leaving us simultaneously giddy and irked.
What does it all mean? A quick scroll through Twitter reveals one common prediction: Styles will finally be gifting us with a solo single. Given that the singer signed a solo recording contract with 1D’s label, Columbia Records, last summer, it would make sense. According to E!, the heartthrob has even registered FOUR solo tracks with the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers. It’s all very promising indeed!
Styles kept with the cryptic with another baffling hint in the form of the three blank Instagram snaps he shared last night. That’s right: completely white squares with no visuals and no captions. Except…the snaps do serve as a sort of divider, cutting off his previous posts. Could they be clearing the slate to usher in a new era? We sure hope so! Whatever happens two weeks from now, though, it’s clear the 1D fandom will be more than pleased as they haven’t stopped freaking out since the video first aired.
The date that Taylor Swift’s ex-beau decided to share his news is also sparking some buzz, with some accusing the singer of trying to steal Payne’s thunder (he announced the babe’s birth yesterday, despite having welcomed him into the world on March 22). It also just so happens to be the same date Malik make his exit from the band two years ago AND the one year anniversary of when dropped his own firs solo album, Mine Is Mine.
Looks like you’ve got some competition, boys! Let the games begin!
