Here’s What MAC’s Selena Lipstick Looks Like on 6 Different Women’s Skin Colors
Ahhhh, the smell of fresh makeup collabs ;) If you’re anything like us, hearing that one of your all-time fave makeup brands has teamed up with someone you’re obsessed with to debut new products is music to your ears. That said, you can imagine our excitement when we heard that MAC was dropping a new collection dedicated to the late, iconic ‘90s singer Selena Quintanilla.
We rushed to Macy’s to check out this highly anticipated line and were able to snag a classic crimson MAC x Selena Lipstick in Como La Flor ($18), which is described as a “dirty cherry red.” Note that there was a line of almost 100 people snaking all around Union Square in San Francisco on launch day — that’s how much people were dedicated to getting their hands on these products. Six Brit + Co staffers tried on the Selena lipstick shade to see how it looked and wore it throughout the day — here’s the scoop.
ROSEE CANFIELD, DESIGNER
What did you think of the color? “I LOOOOVE the color. It is the perfect red: not too orangey (which is always my issue) or too violet. It was very cherry-like in color and even has the tiniest bit of sheen to it. Obviously, I love that all the shades are named after Selena’s songs!”
How did the lipstick feel? “It was pretty hydrating! I usually wear matte lipstick or a balm, so this was new for me. I really liked it!”
Did the lipstick last throughout the day? “I took it off before lunch because I was eating a sandwich, and let’s be real — there’s just no hope there. I put it back on after lunch and it stayed put! Great formula.”
How many stars (out of five) does this lipstick get? “Five out of five stars. I’m obsessed!”
ERICA RIOS, DIRECTOR, PRODUCT MANAGEMENT
What did you think of the color? “I love the color! It is totally the type of red Selena used to wear.”
How did the lipstick feel? “It has a glossy feel when I’m putting it on. It dries to the touch in about 30 minutes and surprisingly doesn’t dry my lips.”
Did the lipstick last throughout the day? “It comes partially off when eating a meal. There is a slight stain to it, so I have time to go reapply it after eating without that half on/half off look.”
How many stars (out of five) does this lipstick get? “I’d rate it a five because of #SELENA. It has a deep color, withstands my morning coffee and feels great on my lips.”
NATASHA THOMAS, COMMUNITY MANAGER
What did you think of the color? “Love the color! It wasn’t too bright, which is something I’m not a fan of for my complexion. There’s a nice shimmer to it.”
How did the lipstick feel? “The lipstick was actually pretty moisturizing going on. It only took three passes to get even color on both my lips. After a while, it dries a little, but is still very moisturizing.”
Did the lipstick last throughout the day? “I didn’t apply it ’til lunch, but it lasted through my emergency caffeine trip.”
How many stars (out of five) does this lipstick get? “Four out of five stars, because even though my lips were moisturized, it still felt dry underneath. Weird!”
TANIA GANDHE, ENGINEER
What did you think of the color? “It was one of the best red shades I have ever tried! I loved it on my skin tone.”
How did the lipstick feel? “Overall, it felt somewhere in the middle of being moisturizing but still matte. It definitely wasn’t drying, though!”
Did the lipstick last throughout the day? “The lipstick survived through a cup of coffee but significantly faded out after lunch.”
How many stars (out of five) does this lipstick get? “Five out of five stars because I loved it so much!!”
MARIANNE KOO, DESIGNER
What did you think of the color? “The color was great! I usually prefer deeper colors but this was a nice change-up.”
How did the lipstick feel? “The lipstick felt hydrating. I kept it on for a while and my lips never felt like they were shriveling up (gross).”
Did the lipstick last throughout the day? “It stayed pretty well. It survived multiple cups of tea and a few snack breaks. I’d definitely recommend reapplying after your second round of snacks, though.”
How many stars (out of five) does this lipstick get? “Four out of five stars, but only knocking it because of the color.”

What did you think of the color? “The color was a little bit bright for me. I tend to go with a vampy red and this was more of a candy apple color.”
How did the lipstick feel? “It felt great. Not as sticky as lip gloss but not super drying.”
Did the lipstick last throughout the day? “While this lasted me through a couple cups of coffee, I did need to touch up after lunch.”
How many stars (out of five) does this lipstick get? “Three out of five stars just because of how bright the color was.”
