Miley Cyrus Perfectly Shut Down Pregnancy Rumors Using the World Record Egg Meme
Women — especially in the public eye — frequently deal with questions about their plans to have kids, or even pregnancy speculation based on their bodies. Miley Cyrus was the most recent Hollywood target of the latter, and she responded hilariously with a nod to the viral egg meme taking over the internet.
“I’m not ‘Egg-pecting’ but it’s ‘Egg-cellent’ to hear everyone is so ‘Happy For Us,'” Cyrus tweeted in response to media outlets who shared photos accompanied by headlines about pregnancy rumors.
“We’re happy for us too! ‘Egg-cited’ for this next chapter in our lives,” she continued. “Now, can everyone leave me alone and go back to staring at an egg?” Cyrus then shared the paparazzi photos of her supposed “baby bump” that she had Photoshopped with the World Record Egg meme from Instagram. (The egg also featured a mouth with its tongue sticking out, naturally. Like mother, like egg!)
The egg meme is a reference to the World Record Egg Instagram account, which posted a picture of a plain egg on January 4 and asked people to help set a world record for the most-liked post on Instagram. The account was trying to beat the record held by Kylie Jenner (18 million), which it achieved in just over a week. Currently, the egg photo has more than 47 million likes (and even got a hilarious reaction video from Jenner herself).
The rumors about Cyrus come just weeks after the singer married her longtime love Liam Hemsworth on December 23, 2018. It’s not the first time the “Nothing Breaks Like a Heart” singer has faced pregnancy speculation, though. She previously responded to “rude” comments about a photo in November 2017. “Not pregnant just eating a sh*t ton of tofurkey,” she said of the Thanksgiving snap.
