The Crowded Room — Stream on Apple TV+
It's probably safe to say that some of the best psychological thrillers are based on books because, again, The Crowded Room fits the same bill. Inspired by a 1981 non-fiction novel penned by Daniel Keyes, this 2023 miniseries centers on a young man named Danny Sullivan, played by Tom Holland.
Viewers watch as he gets arrested in 1979 for a shooting. Then, you get to follow along as he's interviewed by an interrogator, depicted by Amanda Seyfried, and reflects on the moments in his life that led him to commit the crime.
Other cast members in The Crowded Room include Sasha Lane, Will Chase, Lior Raz, and Emmy Rossum. You can watch it now on Apple TV+ or Prime Video.

The Watcher is arguably every homeowner's biggest nightmare. Released in 2022, it follows a married couple who think they're moving into their dream house in New Jersey. Yet, they soon begin to receive strange letters from a stalker who calls themselves "The Watcher."
If you think the plot couldn't get any more juicy, the whole tale is actually inspired by a 2018 article published in New York Magazine about the Broaddus family, who got the same, creepy letters from an anonymous sender.
Starring Naomi Watts, Bobby Cannavale, Isabel Gravitt, Luke David Blumm, Jennifer Coolidge, and more, The Watcher can be streamed on Netflix.

But while at home, Camille finds herself under the scrutiny of her socialite mother. And along with investigating the murders, she has to face her own issues, too.
Amy Adams stars alongside a strong cast, including Patricia Clarkson, Chris Messina, Eliza Scanlen, Matt Craven, Henry Czerny, and more. To stream Sharp Objects, check out Max or Hulu.

Ripley — Stream on Netflix
We've all heard of The Talented Mr. Ripley by Patricia Highsmith, but this show marks the first time the book was ever adapted for the small screen. Set in 1961, it centers on the titular con man, Tom Ripley, who gets hired to persuade the son of a well-off guy to return home from Italy.
Spoiler alert: after Tom takes on the gig, he becomes enthralled in a privileged life abroad and starts constructing a web of lies that steers into sinister territory.
Andrew Scott tackles the role of Tom Ripley, alongside Dakota Fanning, Johnny Flynn, Eliot Sumner, Margherita Buy, and Maurizio Lombardi. You can watch Ripley, released in 2024, on Netflix.

The Stranger — Stream on Netflix
Are you a mystery novel fan who adores Harlan Coben? You'll probably be pleased to learn that The Stranger is a British miniseries inspired by Coben's 2015 book of the same name.
Richard Armitage stars as Adam Price, a man who's approached by a strange baseball cap-wearing woman in her twenties who shares a secret with him. Afterward, Adam's wife disappears, and that same stranger winds up being intertwined in even more mysteries.
The Stranger was released in 2020, and all eight episodes are available to stream on Netflix.

USA
The Sinner — Stream on Netflix
When The Sinner was first created, it was supposed to be (you guessed it) a miniseries. However, it was so successful following its release in 2017 that the USA Network actually decided to transform it into an anthology.
The show follows a police detective, played by Bill Pullman, who works to get to the bottom of a fresh homicide each season. So, the rest of the cast largely changes in each iteration.
Jessica Biel and Christopher Abbott are notable stars in Season 1; meanwhile, Carrie Coon appears in Season 2, Matt Bomer and Chris Messina are in Season 3, and Alice Kremelberg and Michael Mosley grace Season 4.
Anyone who's searching for a show with plenty of binge-worthy content available shouldn't sleep on The Sinner. Stream it today on Netflix.
