Fergie Reveals the Real Reason She and Josh Duhamel Went Public With Their Split
Fergie and Josh Duhamel recently revealed that they split up earlier this year after eight years of marriage. The pair initially decided to keep their breakup out of the press for the sake of their family, which includes four-year-old son Axl, but they decided to go public for one kind of sad reason.
“Honestly, it was just getting a little weird for us with all the romantic questions,” she told People. “It was just getting a little weird to laugh through the first date questions.”
When the pair initially announced their split, they noted that they were doing so with “absolute love and respect.” She doubled down on that sentiment in her chat with People.
“We’re great friends; we love each other so much,” she said. “It just got to the point where it was getting a little weird. There’s no perfect time, so we just decided to do it.”
Fergie and Duhamel also noted in their initial statement that they wanted to “give [their] family the best opportunity to adjust” to the split in private before making it public news. And it sounds like they’ve been able to do just that.
“[Axl’s school has helped as] we have a co-op,” she explained. “Josh and I would walk there several times before the school season. So I get to learn from the teachers and see how he reacts in a group of friends that he knows.”
Fergie is currently promoting her upcoming new solo album Double Dutchess, her first in more than 10 years — which means more and more interviews with the press. It makes sense that she wouldn’t want to laugh her way through questions about their relationship — we’re just happy they were able to take the time to deal with the change in a private and seemingly healthy way.
