We saw plenty of stars at tonight’s SAG Awards, including Winona Ryder (girl gives good face), Ashton Kutcher, Kerry Washington and Taraji P. Henson (all of whom gave deeply moving speeches) and, of course, The Big Bang Theory’s Simon Helberg and wife Jocelyn Towne, who wore their politics on their sleeves — literally.

One actress who was NOT on tonight’s red carpet, however, was Modern Family’s Sarah Hyland, who explained her absence earlier today via Instagram.

“Sad to say I will not be attending the SAG Awards today for some health reasons. So I leave you all with an adorable picture from last year’s @sagawards. PS: You know my dress was gonna be turnt, too.”

Though the star didn’t specify what exactly it was that ailed her, she has previously shared her lifelong battle with her kidneys: She’s been diagnosed with kidney dysplasia and has even undergone a kidney transplant. “My dad gave me a freakin’ kidney!” she revealed to Seventeen back in 2012.

She continued on to explain her health issues further, saying, “I was born with so many health issues that doctors told my mother I would never have a normal life. And she said, ‘You’re right; she won’t. But it won’t be because of her health.’” (Sounds like a pretty boss mom to us.)

Here’s to wishing you a speedy recovery and an abnormal life of all things extraordinary, Sarah.
