A Clever Way to Upgrade Your “Cookies in a Jar” Gift This Season
Gifts in jars with sparkly things and ribbons make us feel like kids all over again! This thoughtful sugar cookie gift jar would make a great gift for one of the girls. How about throwing a cookie decorating party while you’re at it?
Ingredients and Materials:
Makes 14-16 cookies
— 1 + 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
— ½ teaspoon baking powder
— ½ cup granulated sugar
— 1 + ½ cups confectioners’ sugar
— 2 Tablespoons dragees (edible metallic balls)
— 2 Tablespoons rainbow sprinkles
— 1 vanilla pod
— 3 plastic sandwich bags
— 2 mini 1.5 x 2.5-inch plastic bags
— 1 liter mason jar
— 1 disposable piping bag
— 1 cookie cutter (any shape you like)
— 1 meter of ribbon

Instructions:
1. Mix the flour and baking powder and place into a sandwich bag. Label it “flour and baking powder.” Place the cane sugar and confectioners’ sugar into separate sandwich bags and label them, then place the metallic balls and candy strands into separate mini bags. Make sure there’s no air in the bags.
2. Place the flour and two sugar bags in the mason jar. Place the bags with the metallic balls and candy strands down the side of the jar along with the vanilla pod. Place the disposable piping bag on top.
3. Put the lid on the jar and tie on the gift tag and ribbon.

To Make the Cookies
Extra Ingredients:
– 6 Tablespoons softened butter
– 1 large egg
– 4 Tablespoons milk
Instructions:
1. Beat the butter and sugar in a stand mixer for 3-4 minutes until fluffy. Slice the vanilla pod in half and scrape the seeds into the mixer bowl, add the egg and beat for another minute to combine.
2. Add the flour and baking powder and mix until the dough just comes together.
3. Roll out the dough to 1/4-inch thick on a floured surface, then wrap in plastic wrap and chill in the fridge for one hour.
4. Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
5. Cut the dough into shapes using a cookie cutter. Re-roll any leftover dough and cut again. Place in the oven and cook for 7-10 minutes until very lightly browned.
6. Allow to cool and then decorate.
