I've been watching The Summer I Turned Pretty since it first came out back in 2022. Initially, I was #TeamJeremiah, however, I've surely switched to #TeamConrad over the years (Chris Briney is just the best!). Now, if you're an avid fan like myself, then you've probably found yourself Googling "Where is The Summer Turned Pretty filmed?" Well, I have the answer for you: the coast of North Carolina.

Prime Video
North Carolina is where nearly all of the filming for The Summer I Turned Pretty took place and is slated to continue for the movie which is reportedly already in production.
Last month, I decided to honor my inner fangirl and take a trip to North Carolina to find as many of the filming locations as I could. I did a bunch of research for my trip to make sure I saw almost everything I could during my time in the Tarheel state. To help make your trip easier, I've gathered a list of a majority of the filming locations from the gas station in season one to the iconic Gazebo Bar in season three.
Wrightsville Beach

Casey Clark/Brit + Co
A trip to North Carolina isn't complete without going to at least one beautiful beach. As you've seen in TSITP, there are a ton of beaches with lots of crystal blue waters and fluffy sand. Spoiler alert: Cousin's Beach actually consists of multiple beaches throughout North Carolina including Wrightsville Beach, Carolina Beach, and Kure Beach.
I only had time to go to Wrightsville Beach, which is where you'll recognize scenes like Belly and Conrad's finale kiss from season one and Belly and Taylor's walk on the pier. At Wrightsville Beach, you'll specifically want to go to beach access entrances 39 to 43.
During the summer, the beaches are packed so make sure you go early in the morning to get those shots with few people in the background.
Address: South Lumina Ave, Wrightsville Beach, NC 28480
Oceanic at The Crystal Pier

Casey Clark/Brit + Co
You might recognize Oceanic as the restaurant where Belly and Jeremiah announce their engagement in season three. You can make a reservation to dine here as it has magnificent views of the water. If you want to re-live or re-enact the moment, you can even request the table they sat at which is in the back right side of the second floor towards the window.
Keep in mind, the table is a common request so don't be rude or upset if you are told that's already reserved for a different party!
Address: 703 S Lumina Ave, Wrightsville Beach, NC 28480
Cape Fear Country Club

Prime Video
The Cousins Beach Country Club is a common filming location in the show where the iconic deb ball was hosted and that was filmed at Cafe Fear Country Club in Wilmington, North Carolina.
The country club is closed to the public since it is private property which is a real bummer for TSITP fans, however, you can still drive by and get a quick glance. It's definitely worth checking if you have some time since it is such a staple of the show, but do not turn in as they have security by the entrance.
After you snap a quick photo from the car, you'll want to head over to Manna for dinner for some delicious local cuisine with an ever changing menu. Nothing from TSITP was filmed there, however, it is a three minute walk from Papercut Books which was featured in the show.
Address: 1518 Country Club Rd, Wilmington, NC 28403
Papercut Books

Casey Clark/Brit + Co
Speaking of Papercut Books, you must make a stop there while you're in Wilmington — this is the "Whale of a Tale" bookstore in the show. You'll recognize this from season one where Laurel and Susannah go to ahead of her book launch to make sure it's prepped and ready for the big day.
It's a cute Indie bookstore that has hundreds of titles and cute items from local vendors like earrings and tote bags. FYI: The couch that was in seen in the series at the bookshop received so much traction from visitors that they had to replace it so unfortunately you won't find it there anymore.
Address: 200 Market St Unit 100, Wilmington, NC 28401
ARRIVE Wilmington

Casey Clark/Brit + Co
If you're looking for a place to stay in Wilmington, then you might as well stay at the same place the cast did and Taylor/her mom in season three.
This four-star boutique hotel is quite charming with its outdoor firepits and string lights. The rooms are cozy with pops of pink and wooden accents throughout and an on-site bar that might look familiar.
The Gazebo Bar was used in season three as the spot where friends and family gathered for pre- and post-wedding drinks. If you stay at the hotel, you'll receive a voucher for a free drink from The Gazebo Bar. Keep in mind that it's only open seasonally so you'll want to check with the property depending on when you plan to visit.
Address: 101 S 2nd St, Wilmington, NC 28401
Russell's Quik Stop

Casey Clark/Brit + Co
Whether you need to refill your tank after a long day of destination hopping or simply are craving some snacks, then you'll want to make a visit to Russell's Quik Stop. You'll recognize this as the gas station from season one where Belly goes and gets a pack of Sour Patch Kids. You can remake the scene by going inside and grabbing a bag of SPK and then continuing on with the rest of your visit to North Carolina.
Address: 2101 Wrightsville Ave. Wilmington, NC 28403.
UNC-Chapel Hill

Casey Clark/Brit + Co
You probably remember Finch University, which is where Belly and Jeremiah end up going to college. Although Finch University doesn't exist, a majority of the scenes from Finch were actually filmed at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. In fact, Jenny Han, the author of The Summer I Turned Pretty books went to UNC-Chapel Hill herself.
The university used to offer guided tours but now they only have self-guided ones available. They have a full map that you can use that's super easy to follow — that's what I did and it was super fun. It took me a little less than an hour to see everything I wanted to on the campus.
Some of the key spots you'll want to hit on campus include:
- Fraternity court (scene of Jeremiah's fraternity house)
- University Seal (where the Finch University plaque is)
- Pettigrew Hall (where Belly lets her mom know she was accepted to study abroad)
- McCorkle Place (where Belly and Jeremiah danced at night in a flashback)
- Old East (Belly's dorm)
- Old West (where Taylor yells at Jeremiah for cheating)
After an afternoon of exploration, you'll want to grab a quick bite at The Top of the Hill where Jenny Han actually took the production team to eat during filming.
Remember the university is in full swing all year round so make sure to be respectful when visiting the locations.
Address: 200 E Cameron Ave, Chapel Hill, North Carolina
The Carolina Inn

Casey Clark/Brit + Co
You'll probably need somewhere to stay in Chapel Hill, at least for a night, so you can book a room at The Carolina Inn. Located in the heart of Chapel Hill, The Carolina Inn is not only where the cast stayed during filming, but also was used as the location of the conference room which Laurel and John attend in season three.
The Carolina Inn is one of the most gorgeous hotels I've ever stayed at with its light blue vintage aesthetic and incredible hospitality. Oh, and don't forget to grab a cookie from the cookie jar in the lobby in the evenings.
Address: 211 Pittsboro St, Chapel Hill, NC 27516
Southport

Casey Clark/Brit + Co
Southport is where you'll find the location of the establishing shot to cousin's beach — this is where the "Welcome to Cousin's Beach" sign was placed. Not much else was filmed in Southport for TSITP, however, it's still a charming little beach town that is worth a visit.
After checking out where the establishing shot was filmed, I'd head over to either Fishy Fishy Cafe or Provisions for a bite — the seafood is a must try.
If you're interested in other filming location history in Southport, then you could also hop on a e-bike tour with Cycle-logical Tours to learn about the rich history of the area through a cinematic lens while embracing the outdoors.
Address: 223 E. Bay St., Southport, NC 28461
The Beach House

Prime Video
You might be wondering where the familiar house is from the series — well, it's a mansion in a gated community in Wilmington. Unfortunately, visitors can't go in since it's a gated community so it's really only accessible to those who live there, but it's still fun to know that it is in the beautiful state of North Carolina.
Address: 1733 Futch Creek Rd, Wilmington, NC 28411
