Protecting women's reproductive rights feels like an uphill battle. To date, 14 states have a total abortion ban in place that don't allow any exceptions for sexual violence against women or young girls. One of the states is Missouri, where model Karlie Kloss spent time as a child.

Having given birth to her first child during the pandemic, she feels fortunate to have a positive birth story, but she knows this isn't always the case for others. Unfortunately, doctors don't always prioritize women's pain and this can end up especially hurting Black moms. There's also things like postpartum depression to consider.

Luckily, there are moms — like Karlie Kloss — who are willing to push back against any stigma by sharing their postpartum stories and advocating for maternal health.

Karlie's Postpartum Experience + Maternal Health Inequality

There are birthing classes and books dedicated to educating moms about life during postpartum, but that doesn't always mean you can know exactly what to expect. In Karlie's case, she remembers the difficulties she faced after giving birth. She told Glamour, "My body was completely turned around, you’re not sleeping, and there’s this enormous learning curve that you have to figure out." For some moms, postpartum anxiety or postpartum depression can add to the challenges of adjusting to a new normal. The truth is that 1 in 10 women experience PPD, making it a common occurrence.

As tough as the postpartum experience can be, Karlie feels like it helped open her eyes to things she didn't have prior knowledge about. She said, "...the access to, say, the right kind of formula to feed your child, or protections and rights, is not equal."

Why Karlie's Advocating For Maternal Health Support + Paid Leave

When Karlie learned about the trigger ban on abortion in Missouri, she told Glamour she was upset and wanted to figure out how to become active in fighting for reproductive rights. She said, "We are living in a country where forced birth is a reality. And yet when that mother goes into labor and that child comes into the world, she also is not protected...before being forced to go back to work." She went on to express frustration about the lack of policies that can ensure birthing women are actually protected in a country that demands ownership of their reproductive rights.

It's one of the reasons she chose to join Bobbie's Motherboard and the #passpaidleave campaign. She said, "As I’ve gotten more informed on the history of it, learning how many times [paid leave] has been tried to pass and how close we got this past fall, now is the time to really bring this to the forefront." This inspired her to implement a 12-week paid leave policy at her own company, Kode With Klossy. Right on!

We still have a long way to go when it comes to women's health. We know it shouldn't be a hard decision for the government to determine women need more beneficial policies and less threats of criminal charges but, thankfully, there are people who are committed to using their platforms to advocate.

Reboots might get a bad rap, but just because a studio is retelling a familiar story doesn't mean it has to feel outdated. A new take on our favorite movies and TV shows can use new technology to update the visuals, or can keep the heart of the original story but give the characters and settings a new edge. Whether they're sticking to their roots or putting a brand new spin on old favorites, here are ten reboots you need to know about.

The Princess Diaries 3

The original Princess Diaries is without a doubt a formational part of our personality, thanks to Anne Hathaway's sass and charm. A third installment in the series is reportedly in the works, and while Hathaway has verbally expressed interest in the movie, she hasn't signed on yet. Aadrita Mukerji is set to write and Debra Martin Chase and Melissa Stack are set to executive produce.

Elle Woods has inspired us to wear pink in every situation — and given us confidence to follow our instincts no matter what other people think. Mindy Kaling and Dan Goor are set to write the new script and are determined to get it right.

"I'm still hoping that Legally Blonde 3 is gonna come together in the right way," Witherspoon told USA Today. "I feel like these characters are my friends, so I safeguard them. I would never make the subpar, mediocre version of their story."

Harry Potter Max Original Series | Official Announcement | Max

Harry Potter is one of those series that gives you an incredible amount of detail on the page, which can hurt or help when it comes to adapting it for the screen. This new TV series is set to retell the stories from the books over the course of ten years, and a series format could potentially explore different characters and communities within the wizarding world.

Freaky Friday 2

Image via Disney / IMDB

If you're still listening to songs from Pink Slip (Lindsay Lohan's fictional band in Freaky Friday) on repeat, then listen up — it appears that we're finally getting a sequel!

“Jamie and I are both open to that, so we’re leaving it in the hands that be,” Lohan told the NYT. “We would only make something that people would absolutely adore.”

Twilight

Image via Summit Entertainment/IMDb

The original Twilight series definitely gives us that "I want to curl up with a cup of tea and a blanket" feeling, and we hope that this new iteration (which is still "in the works," FYI) delivers on that front. We don't know whether this television reboot will give us a new Bella and Edward, or if it'll be a new story within the world, but we're looking forward to finding out.

The Little Mermaid

We just got the first pictures from Amazon's adaptation of Casey McQuiston’s famed Red, White & Royal Blue, and it's set to be the perfect extravagantly messy royal romance that we've been waiting for. Luckily, we don't have to wait too long for the 2019 LGBT best-selling novel to come to the big screen, as it will premiere this summer on August 11. Until then, here’s everything you need to know about the book’s impending film release.

Can you give us a sneak-peak of the film?!

Uh — of course! Here are all of the pictures Prime Video has released so far.

Prime Video

Prince Henry and Alex Claremont-Diaz in the scene that started it all. 👀

Our favorite couple keeping things — formal.

Prime Video

...And a little less formal.

What’s "Red, White & Royal Blue" about?

The novel centers around the character of Alex Claremont-Diaz, a first son of the United States, and his romantic relationship with Prince Henry, British royalty.

Who’s in the "Red, White & Royal Blue" cast?

The Kissing Booth actor Taylor Zakhar Perez will star as Alex alongside Nicholas Galitzine as the Prince Henry (which will certainly be a familiar role for the 2021 live-action Cinderella Prince Robert actor).

Additional cast announcements include Uma Thurman as POTUS Ellen Claremont (AKA Alex’s mom), and currently undisclosed roles for Stephen Fry, Sarah Shahi, Ellie Bamber, Rachel Hilson, Clifton Collins Jr., Sharon D. Clarke, Malcolm Atobrah, Akshay Khanna, Aneesh Sheth, Polo Morin, Ahmed Elhaj, and Thomas Flynn.

Is there a trailer for "Red, White & Royal Blue"?

We don't have a trailer yet, but there's plenty of behind-the-scenes moments via social media.

Take a look at these behind-the-scenes pictures too! 👀

When does "Red, White & Royal Blue" come out?

The film will premiere on Amazon Prime video on August 11, 2023, and we’ve got our countdown SET.

In the meantime, you can read Casey McQuinston’s original novel.

We cannot wait to see the cross-pond love story on our screens, but for now we’ll be rereading (and rereading) RWRB.

If you refuse to drink anything but cold brew coffee when the weather gets above 70 (or all year round, let's be real), then listen up: Blank Street created an entire menu just for you. If you're a little skeptical, rest assured that some of our favorite "It" girls — namely Emily Ratajkowski and Emma Chamberlain — are fans of the Brooklyn coffee shop's cold brew.

The secret to these drinks is the Cold Brew Shot, a highly concentrated 1.5 ounces of Blank Street's signature cold brew (very similar to an espresso shot). Once they have that cold brew shot, they created a line of brand new cold brew drinks we can't wait to get our hands on.

🏠 Bring It Home: Our favorite at-home cold brew recipe is a 1:4 cold brew to water ratio. Meaning one cup of coffee can mix with four cups of water. Adjust accordingly!

Original Cold Brew

This is the perfect drink for anyone who loves the simple things in life. The sharper edge of the coffee mixes with smooth milk chocolate and caramel for a drink we can't get enough of.

🏠 Bring It Home: Mix your cold brew with chocolate milk for that silky finish.

Cortado Cold Brew

If you're particular about your milk, then this Cortado drink is for you. It mixes the Cold Brew Shot with a just dash of your favorite milk, served over ice, of course.

🏠 Bring It Home: Add a splash of whatever milk you have in your fridge to your cold brew. Sweetener optional but encouraged. :)

Grapefruit Cold Brew Spritz

Adding club soda to your coffee might sound crazy, but if there's one flavor that makes it work, it's grapefruit. Vanilla bean is the perfect finishing touch because it adds just a touch of sweetness without overwhelming the rest of the drink.

🏠 Bring It Home: Add your coffee shot to your glass, then top with club soda and grapefruit juice. Depending on how sweet you want your drink, you can add either vanilla syrup or vanilla extract.

Shaken Brown Sugar Cold Brew

For this drink, you'll want to follow Selena Gomez' advice and "shake it up." Dark brown sugar, your choice of milk, and a Cold Brew Shot blend together beautifully. Finish with a pinch of cinnamon.

🏠 Bring It Home: You probably already have all of these ingredients at home! Use a mason jar or cocktail shaker to shake dark brown sugar, milk, and cold brew together. After you pour the mix into your glass, top with cinnamon.

Shaken Chai Cold Brew

This cold brew drink features small batch Masala Chai (which is basically chai concentrate), shaken with milk and a Cold Brew Shot. Top with a pinch of cinnamon for good measure.

🏠 Bring It Home:: Use your favorite chai concentrate or brew your own with a few chai tea bags. Once the tea is cool, shake with your favorite milk and cold brew. Pour, top with cinnamon, and enjoy!
