This Website Is like Reading Rainbow for Adults
While we equate the warm weather with catching some rays outside, there are going to be some days when you want to sit in the confines of your air-conditioned abode and do some indoor activities. After all, some of the best things about summer are catching up on reading and Netflix queues. Thanks to a new website, you can now combine couch surfing with your passion for lit. Booklandia.tv allows community members to discover and share storytelling videos. Covering the genres of fiction, nonfiction, humor and children’s lit, there is something for every bookworm.
Booklandia.tv is the brainchild of journalism students at the University of Oregon. They partnered with Powell’s Books in Portland to bring video content to book lovers everywhere. Their site offers Q&A interviews with notable authors and candid conversations with readers of all ages around what they’re currently reading. Think of it like a reboot of Reading Rainbow’s “You don’t have to take my word for it” for grown ups. Kids get in on the action too with adorable footage of them explaining children’s books to adults.
While the majority of the content is currently local, there is an open invite for high school and college students around the country to submit video interviews for their channel. The site is only a few months old, and we’re excited to see what footage they’ll bring in the future.
One new segment is “Epilogue” which is a roundup of lit news from around the world. Check out the first episode below, and if you’re a literary lover, make sure to look into Booklandia.tv.
