It’s been over 10 years since Gossip Girl
premiered when our adoration for Serena van der Woodsen (Blake Lively) and Blair Waldorf
(Leighton Meester) blossomed. Sure, we were hooked on their juicy NYC drama from the very first episode, but their sartorial choices are what really drew us in. Blair’s high-fashion prep look and Serena’s polished-eclectic vibe inspired us to experiment and test out a slew of trends back in 2007 (seriously, who didn’t want to wear a chunky headband on the regular?). Well, after binge-watching the series again recently (thanks, Netflix!
), we realized that many of their looks are actually just as relevant today. To prove it, we uncovered Gossip Girl
looks featuring trends currently popular on the runways and among the street-style set. Keep scrolling for five ways to channel your inner Upper East Side fashion icon.
Bold Florals: Sometimes, the bolder, the better. Right? This is basically the motto Blair swore by with her eye-catching floral looks, like this mixed-print ensemble. Sure, floral as a trend isn’t ever ground-breaking (we hear you, Miranda Priestly), but the look did come back this year in a major way with loud, vibrant patterns hitting the runways of heavy-hitters like Oscar de la Renta and Dolce & Gabbana. Millennial Pink: We probably don’t need to explain the power of millennial pink to you anymore. The hue has essentially solidified itself as the color of the past few seasons, cropping up in our ready-to-wear and our décor. The Gossip Girl cast clearly predicted the future, consistently churning out a smattering of getups featuring pops of pink, like in Serena's shoes here. (Photo via Anderson/Getty)
J.Crew Cocoon Coat ($350):
Make an instant statement by incorporating this topper into your favorite fall look.
The Beret: The Parisian-inspired hat has been around for a long time, cementing status as the topper amongst stars like Brigitte Bardot in the '50s to Twiggy in the '60s. Well, Gossip Girl clearly brought the trend to the forefront in the mid-2000s (thanks, Blair), and as the street elite continue to prove, it's poised to be one of the biggest looks of this year. H&M Felted Beret ($13):
Want to really go for it? Try a red-hot beret this fall!
When it comes to the boot style, western and equestrian-inspired silhouettes reign supreme this season. This is something Serena understood all too well. She sported many varieties of this boot style, like the pair she wore here with her stylish plaid coat (another
huge trend!). (Photo via Philip Ramey/Getty)
Aldo Keesha Boots ($140):
Pair these brown boots with jeans, skirts, or dresses. The styling opportunities are endless.
Military Coats: This is a trend that we've been loving for seasons, and it's proving to be a major look for 2018. Thanks, Blair. (Photo via Ray Tamarra/Getty)
Zara Short Coat ($169):
The red stripe detail gives this military coat a little extra pop.
