These 2019 Fashion Trends Are Already in Your Closet

With every new year comes an inevitable wave of new fashion trends — but that doesn't mean you should toss out your whole closet. Plenty of 2018's most popular styles will actually be sticking around in 2019. So rather then lament the fact that you don't have a celebrity-level wardrobe budget for new threads, take stock of what you do have and prioritize the pieces that will still look current come the new year. Here, 10 trends that will be everywhere in 2019 — and that are already in your closet.
Puff Sleeves: The '80s made a surprisingly wearable return in 2018. Designers sent many a puff-shoulder piece down the Spring 2019 runways, indicating this trend isn't ready to go away just yet. (Photo via Achim Aaron Harding/Getty Images)
Utility: Anything with cargo pockets or d-ring details is officially in play for 2019. Utility-inspired style is set to prove, well, very useful in the coming year. (Photo via Matthew Sperzel/Getty Images)
Round Bags: Chanel, Louis Vuitton, and other brands are still cosigning circular handbags for 2019 — so don't store yours just yet. (Photo via Edward Berthelot/Getty Images)
Cardigans: The classic open-front sweater gives you options — and will be big in the new year. For a sexy twist, try wearing yours buttoned up without an underlayer. (Photo via Melodie Jeng/Getty Images)
Sequins: Sparkle and shine isn't just a holiday trend. Keep your party pieces in rotation in 2019 and mix them with casual wear to get extra mileage. (Photo via Christian Vierig/Getty Images)
Yellow: 2019 will have us all in a sunny state of mind, at least where fashion is concerned. Buttery marigold hues will continue to dominate, proving the yellow craze wasn't a fashion fluke. (Photo by Vanni Bassetti/Getty Images)
Pastels: Sweet sorbet-inspired colors aren't just Easter fare anymore. Start styling these soft fashion girl-approved hues now and wear them well into the new year. (Photo via Christian Vierig/Getty Images)
Pleats: Stay in the fold(s) in 2019. Pleats, especially of the tight and dramatic variety, are set to make a major impact. (Photo via Timur Emek/Getty Images)
Neon: Another trend with surprising staying power, fluorescent brights are very much on tap for 2019. Go bright or go home. (Photo via Christian Vierig/Getty Images)
Poet Sleeves: Statement sleeves ain't goin' nowhere. Dramatic balloon sleeves abound for spring — so stay romantic, my friends. (Photo via Kirstin Sinclair/Getty Images)
