How to Do a Snake Accent Braid Hairstyle in 3 Simple Steps

We all love a good braid. Whether we’re trying the crazy colorful corset trend, an Insta-inspired knot, or even braided pigtails, the plaited hairstyle is a tried-and-true look that we’re always down to create. The best part is that some of them can give the look of a complex style but actually only require a few simple steps to achieve IRL. The edgy snake braid fits that bill and instantly elevates any look you pair it with.

This intricate accent is a celebrity favorite with stars, including Blake Lively, Elizabeth Olsen, and Ashley Graham. And it made more than a few appearances on the festival circuit for those wanting to keep cool and look cool. “This style is very popular for Coachella and other occasions because it is more interesting and unique than a traditional three-strand braid but not as complicated as a fishtail or five strand braid,” celeb hairstylist Sarah Potempa tells Brit + Co.

The queen of braids breaks it down for us in the following foolproof how-to.

Step 1

First, create a regular three strand braid. Then, hold one of the strands taught and place the other two strands on the left side.

Step 2

Push the two strands on the left side up toward the top of the braid, while still holding the other third strand taut, until the hair is tightly coiled by the root.

Step 3

Now, pull the coil back down to the desired look you’re after. The longer that you pull the braid down, the more visible the S-shaped snake shape appears. Secure the style with an elastic and a bobby pin for extra support.

How easy was that!?!

Life is all about the little treats that keep you going. For me, it’s either a sweet dessert or a biiig cup of iced coffee – but those purchases can really rack up, especially when I’m making weekly (or TBH, twice- or thrice-weekly) Starbucks runs. I know I’m not alone in wishing there were more Starbucks deals that’d save me a buck or two each visit.

Wish no more – there are actually tons of ways to snag some Starbucks deals. I’ll even dish on how to get free Starbucks right now. Read on for the coolest coffee deals around!

Does Starbucks have discounts?

Yes, Starbucks has discounts often. They usually depend on the day and time you visit, or seasonal offerings that the chain decides to promote. You can easily find Starbucks deals in the Starbucks app, and check back here for current offers!

What is the cheapest thing to get from Starbucks?

If you still want a drink (but want to spend the least amount of money), a kids-sized steamed (or cold) apple juice is the cheapest thing to get from Starbucks at $2.25. Typically, any kids-sized drink will save you some dough!

How does Starbucks Rewards work?

You earn 1 Star per $1 spent at a Starbucks location with Starbucks Rewards after scanning the Starbucks app and paying with cash, debit card, credit card, or select mobile wallets. You can earn 2 Stars per $1 spent after making a purchase with a preloaded Starbucks Card linked to your Starbucks Rewards account as well. Once you earn enough, you can spend those Stars on freebies like a drink customization, a hot brewed coffee, or a handcrafted drink like a latte!

1. Look out for flash deals

Starbucks regularly runs deals that depend on the day and time you visit – you just have to check in the right places. More often than not, they’ll be posted on the Starbucks app.

Right now, they’re offering several deals for May 2024:

  • 50% off one handcrafted beverage on May 17, 24, and 31 only from 12-6pm local time
  • Personalized offers released in the Starbucks app on May 13, 20, and 27 only

Plus, new Starbucks Rewards members who join during the month of May will will receive 50% off any handcrafted drink during their first week as a member. All they have to do is download the app, join Starbucks Rewards, and click the ‘New Members Get 50% Off’ link!

2. Use Starbucks Rewards

Like I mentioned before, the Starbucks app is a pretty easy way to know what deals are going on when. Signing up for Starbucks Rewards will get you on track to get free Starbucks even easier. Their rewards system operates via Stars – you’ll earn 1 Star for each $1 spent when scanning the Starbucks app and paying with cash, debit card, credit card, or select mobile wallets, or 2 Stars per $1 spent when you pay with a preloaded Starbucks Card in the Starbucks app.
  • 25 Stars earns you a free drink customization
  • 100 Stars earns you a free brewed hot or iced coffee or tea, a bakery item, or a packaged snack
  • 200 Stars earns you a free handcrafted beverage or hot breakfast item
  • 300 Stars earns you a free sandwich, protein box or a bag of coffee beans
  • 400 Stars earns you free Starbucks merch (select items only)

If you’re a regular customer, signing up for Starbucks Rewards will definitely pay off! Learn more here.

3. Opt for a personal cup

When you use a personal cup at Starbucks, you receive a $0.10 discount. For regular visitors, those savings can rack up! Furthermore, if you're a Starbucks Rewards member, using a personal cup, you'll receive 25 Stars. Now, you can use a clean (this is key!) personal cup in Starbucks cafes, in the drive-thru, and even when you order ahead on the app.

4. Don't forget about birthday rewards

Starbucks deals also include birthday freebies, in which you’ll get one free handcrafted beverage, OR one free food item, OR one free ready-to-drink bottled bev.

All you have to do to take advantage of the free Starbucks is register for a Starbucks Rewards account and ensure your birthday date is associated with your account, then once the big day comes, show it to your barista. They’ll take care of you!

If you’ve ever found yourself running late (guilty), you’ve likely thrown your hair into a messy bun or half-up hairstyle in hopes of getting out the door ASAP. While your inspiration may have been your favorite Instagram beauty blogger, if you have fine strands, lifeless locks, or simply aren’t a hair pro, you may be at a loss as to where to begin. Instead of feeling frazzled, heed the advice of Amber Fillerup Clark, AKA Barefoot Blonde, on how to bring her Insta-worthy #HairGoals to life. Ahead you’ll find five easy-to-follow tutorials that will put the finishing touches on any outfit of the day. Best of all, despite looking voluminous, expertly coiffed, and perfectly imperfect, each insanely quick style will take you no more than five minutes, a few bobby pins and, depending on your hair type, clip-in extensions to create.

Two-Twist Updo

You’ll need:

  • extensions
  • hair elastics
  • bobby pins

Instructions:

1. If you have thick hair, you can skip this step. If you have fine hair, however, consider the BFB Up ($115). Designed to create full-bodied updos, these clip-in extensions make any ponytail, bun, or twist look bigger and better. If you use them, clip them in line with the tops of your ears under the outermost layer of hair.

2. Starting at the front of your hair, twist two sections of hair to their ends before twisting them together in a loose rope braid. To do so, twist toward your head and add in sections of hair as you work your way down.

3. Stop once you have twisted half of your hair and secure with elastic.

4. Twist the other half of your hair and secure with elastic.

5. Pin the two twists up. There’s no wrong way to do this; just have fun pinning hair in all directions.

Modern French Twist

You’ll need:

  • extensions
  • bobby pins

Instructions:

1. If you have thick hair, you can skip this step. If not, insert your clip-in extensions in the middle of the back of your head, in line with the top of your ear.

2. Gather all of your hair to the back like you’re going to make a low ponytail.

3. With your pointer finger, twist hair at the nape of the neck.

4. Twist two or three times while moving your hand up to create the twist.

5. Secure with bobby pins.

6. Leave the tail of your hair out for a fun touch, or tuck it under and pin.

7. Pull some pieces of hair out around your face.

Scarf Bun

You’ll need:

  • extensions
  • hair elastic
  • scarf
  • bobby pins

Instructions:

1. If you have thick hair, you can skip this step. If not, insert clip-in extensions in the middle of the back of your head, in line with the top of your ear.

2. Make a low ponytail at the back of your head.

3. Tie a scarf around the ponytail.

4. Take one side of the scarf and join it with the ponytail.

5. Twist the ponytail into a bun.

6. Bobby pin to secure the bun.

7. Tie a knot with the scarf ends or leave them longer. Up to you!

Snake Braid

You’ll need:

  • hair elastic
  • bobby pins

Instructions:

1. Take a small section of hair and do a three-strand braid on one side of your head.

2. With two fingers, hold the middle strand.

3. With your other hand, lightly pinch and push the braid toward the head.

4. Secure with an elastic and pin it in place.

Twisted Half Up

You’ll need:

  • extensions
  • hair elastics

Instructions:

1. Twist two sections of hair from each side and secure them in the back with an elastic.

2. Repeat again with two more small sections from the front.

3. Take the hair from the twists and add in two more small sections of hair to create bulk.

4. Fishtail or braid the gathered hair down to the bottom.

5. Pull apart the braid to make it look more voluminous.

6. Secure with an elastic.

The Starbucks summer menu just dropped, and it’s packed with some pretty divisive drinks. The menu lineup introduced a new flavor of Refreshers alongside something Starbucks has never done on a large scale before: boba. The most recent release also brought two new sweet treats to the pastry case – the Orange Cream Cake Pop and Pineapple Cloud Cake.

Given that these new sips and snacks really venture into uncharted territory, I had to give them a proper try to see if they’re worth it! If you’re on the fence about trying some items from this year’s Starbucks summer menu, scroll on for a totally honest review.

Summer-Berry Refresher

I got my hopes up for the new Refreshers with fruity boba. In hindsight, the long-awaited hype was not worth it. By itself, the Summer-Berry Refresher tastes just like blue Gatorade. Sorry not sorry.

The boba was expected to be the saving grace of this drink, but I was left wanting more after sipping down my first few pearls. The raspberry-flavored popping boba pieces supply a fun texture, but they’re not super flavorful. You also don’t get a great serving size based on the ratio of the drink.

Maybe it was just the location I went to, but though I was given the special wide boba straw, I couldn’t use it with the lid that came with my drink. My Refreshers were handed to me with the signature Starbucks sipper lid – which is too small to fit the new straws. Just a bit annoying, especially if you plan to drink this in the car or on the go!

Summer-Berry Lemonade Refresher

I sipped theSummer-Berry Lemonade Refresher sans boba first. It definitely has more flavor than the OG, but it’s overwhelmingly lemonade-y. The zesty lemonade really overpowered the berry Refresher flavor, so much so that you can’t quite taste the berry.

I might recommend ordering this bev with a light amount of lemonade, so the flavors balance out more harmoniously.

Summer Skies Drink

Okay, y'all – the Summer Skies Drink redeems the rest of the Refreshers. Essentially, it’s the Summer-Berry Refresher with a splash of coconut milk, a la the Pink Drink. I think it’s my favorite of all 3 of them!

It’s creamy and mildly sweet, which works out wonderfully. With the boba, it’s definitely giving milk tea, which I – as a boba fiend – very much appreciate. Though I like the drink itself, I still wish the boba delivered a more berry-like flavor.

White Chocolate Macadamia Cold Brew

Well, yes! The White Chocolate Macadamia Cream Cold Brew is – dare I say – the best thing on this year’s Starbucks summer menu. It’s so good. I typically associate nuttier coffee flavors with fall, but this bev has changed my mind. As much as I appreciate a sweet treat, this cold coffee was a nice reprieve from the all-new Berry Refreshers I had sipped beforehand.

This new menu item is great for those who don’t like a ton of sweetness — the bitter cold brew contrasts exceptionally well with the sweet white chocolate macadamia-flavored cold foam. It gets even better (my tasting notes read: “so very delicious”) when you stir in the cold foam with the coffee.

I also enjoy the little crunchy cookie crumble bits on top. While the popping boba (Starbucks is calling ‘em pearls) falls flat, these sprinkles actually enliven the drinking experience!

Orange Cream Cake Pop

New cake pop just dropped! And it’s everything. The hard shell that coats the tiny ball of cake in this treat is extremely satisfying. When I bit into it, it had an indescribable (in a good way) kind of crunch to it. And while the exterior is harder, the cakey inside is very moist. I wasn’t surprised at how good the texture was since most of Starbucks’ cake pops are scrumptious. That’s that for the texture…

As far as the flavor goes, I expected more of the Orange Cream Cake Pop. Sure, there’s a slight orange flavor – it’s not too overwhelming – but this skewered snack is definitely heavier on all things vanilla-y and downright sugary. It almost tastes like an orange Dreamsicle.

All that being said, I’d still order the Orange Cream Cake Pop over and over and over again if I just want a lil’ something.

Image via Starbucks

Pineapple Cloud Cake

I didn’t get to try the Pineapple Cloud Cake yet since the location I went to had sold out (a good sign, perhaps)! According to Starbucks, it’s “an airy cake filled with layers of pineapple cream, pineapple spread and whole fruit pieces with a sweet drizzle topping.”

We might have been in our Barbie era last year, but we're already looking forward to season 2 of Wednesday in all its lacy, gothic glory. The first season offered the perfect balance of spooky horror, friendships, and romance, and it looks like the next installment will give us even MORE classic Tim Burton details we love. Keep reading to see what lead actress Jenna Ortega has to say about Wednesday season 2!

Who's in the Wednesday season 2 cast?

Image via Helen Sloan/Netflix

Netflix just posted this brand new photo from set and it confirms the Wednesday season 2 cast list! We now know for sure that we'll see Georgie Farmer, Victor Dorobantu, Luyanda Unati Lewis-Nayo, Joy Sunday, Owen Painter, Emma Myers, Billie Piper, Jenna Ortega, Evie Templeton, Luis Guzmán, Isaac Ordonez, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Alfred Gough, Noah Taylor, Miles Millar, Tim Burton, Steve Buscemi, Moosa Mostafa, and Hunter Doohan in season 2 of Wednesday. Deadline confirmed that season 1 regulars Percy Hynes White, Jamie McShane and Naomi J Ogawa will not be returning.

We know that Jenna Ortega will return as Wednesday, but during her Actors on Actors chat with Elle Fanning, Fanning REALLY wants to know if Weems (the principal of Wednesday's Nevermore Academy, played by Game of Thrones' Gwendoline Christie) will return, Ortega doesn't hesitate to voice how much she loved working with the actress: "I would die to work with Gwendolyn Christie for the rest of my life."

"Wednesday's relationship with Weems is one of my favorite because they're very, very different women and they're constantly against each other but simultaneously they both want to watch each other's successes," she continues. "And Gwendolyn being as talented as she is, she's just really, really a pleasure to work with, so I'm doing everything in my power to throw out the most insane plots that would possibly bring this woman back from the dead." Never say never!

Is season 2 Wednesday going to be scary?

Wednesday. Jenna Ortega as Wednesday Addams in episode 104 of Wednesday. Image via Netflix.

"We’re definitely expanding on the supernatural world," Jenna Ortega tells Vanity Fair. "Our show had all sorts of werewolves and vampires and da-ta-da. And I think we expand on that a little bit."

"In the first season we had episodes that really stood out visually, like the dance episode was a really big one for people, and that setting was very particular and it felt like Prom Night, a little bit, or Carrie," she continues. "Every episode [of season two] that I’ve read so far is like that. It just stands out on its own as a very memorable scene or bit or setting, which I think is what I’m most excited for."

What is Wednesday season 2 about?

Wednesday. (L to R) Jenna Ortega as Wednesday Addams, Emma Myers as Enid Sinclair in episode 102 of Wednesday. Image via Netflix.

"We've had a lot of conversations and I think we've decided things that we definitely want to enhance or dive a little bit deeper in," Ortega says during her Actors on Actors interview with Elle Fanning.

In addition to leading the cast, Ortega is serving as producer this time around. She's mentioned how collaborative and welcoming series director Tim Burton has been throughout the whole process, and how excited she is to voice her own ideas. "I think we want to lean into the horror aspect of the show a little bit more because it is so lighthearted," she continues. "A show like this, you know, with vampires and werewolves and superpowers, [you don't] want to take yourself too seriously. So I think that we're ditching any romantic love interest for Wednesday which is really great, and then also we have such incredible female leads in the show."

On January 15, Jenna Ortega revealed she's got her hands on the first few scripts for Wednesday season 2. “We’re definitely leaning into a little bit more horror,” Ortega tells E! News. "There’s really, really good one-liners and I think everything’s bigger. It’s a lot more action-packed. Each episode will probably feel a little bit more like a movie, which is nice.”

When is the season 2 Wednesday release date?

Wednesday. (L to R) Naomi j Ogawa as Yoko Tanaka, Oliver Watson as Kent, Jenna Ortega as Wednesday Addams, Hunter Doohan as Tyler Galpin, Georgie Farmer as Ajax Petropolus, Joy Sunday as Bianca Barclay in episode 108 of Wednesday. Image via Vlad Cioplea/Netflix.

You'll be able to stream Wednesday season 2 on Netflix, which is where you can watch season 1 right now! We don't have an official release date but we hope to see the new season in late 2024 or early 2025!

Where is Wednesday season 2 filmed?

Wednesday. Jenna Ortega as Wednesday Addams in episode 106 of Wednesday. Image via Vlad Cioplea/Netflix.

Via Deadline, season 2 of Wednesday has moved from Romania (where they shot season 1) to Ireland. They're reportedly aiming to start filming in April. Considering last season began shooting in September 2021 and premiered in November 2022, we're expecting to see Wednesday season 2 at the end of 2024 or the beginning of 2025.

How old is Wednesday Addams?

Wednesday. Jenna Ortega as Wednesday Addams in episode 101 of Wednesday. Image via Netflix.

Wednesday Addams is 15 years old at the beginning of the Netflix series. This version of the character is older than other versions, and in the past, we've seen her at six years old and 13.

Are you excited for season 2 of Wednesday? What do you think about the series adding more horror elements? Let us know in the comments and check out the rest of the New TV Shows coming this year!
