The Key to Khloe Kardashian’s Blonde Hair Isn’t an Actual Product

Khloe Kardashian has gone under quite the transformation recently, in case you haven’t noticed. She’s more fit than ever, has become the queen of quirky tutorials (cookie organization, anyone?) and has sported about eight different hair colors over the past few months, each looking better than the last. Her hair doesn’t look like it’s been through the wringer, though, which it totally has been thanks to the constant color updates. What gives?

Patience — that’s what, says Khloe, who recently posted an Instagram that chronicled her hair journey from dark brunette to a beachy blonde with a series of progression photos + a pic of the woman behind the transformation, her hair colorist, Tracey Cuningham. “[P]eople seem to forget that my progression from dark to blonde took time. First I was chocolate brown, and then I added some highlights, then it was my ombre phase and now I am a blonde,” Khloe said in the caption, which is a big contrast to the way we’re used to seeing celebs’ hair change completely overnight.

All in all, it took three or four months for Khloe to reach the level of blonde she is currently rocking. Conditioning Khloe’s hair throughout this process was key, Tracey explained to Allure, and she credits a lot of that to hair-saving miracle-product Olaplex.

A color transition like Khloe’s isn’t easy — or guaranteed to work on everyone — so make sure you consult with a professional before you begin so that you’re on the same page about expectations and desired outcome. Then once you get the okay, *patiently* wait as your hair beautifully transitions from one hue to another. At least while you wait it out, your in-between hue of not-quite-brunette, not-quite-blonde will be right on trend.

Festival season is here and summer is shortly on its way, so and to me that signals that it's time to get funky with your hairchoices! Whether it be some fun braids ornew cuts, you can try them all! But my personal favorite has to be dying your hair.... temporarily of course! Growing up I've never taken the plunge and fully dyed my hair, but I always loved to play around with temporary dye as a way to feel the fun change...but not dye my hair pink forever on a late night whim (I would not advise anyone to try this — we all saw what happened in that Gilmore Girlsepisode). So if you're getting that drastic decision itch but don't want to fully take the plunge then we'd recommend these fun styles that the experts say you'll love!

How long does temporary hair dye last?

Photo by Araya Doheny/Getty Images for Revolve

Temporary hair dye should only last a week or a couple weeks at max depending on how often you wash your hair. On the Sally Beauty website, it says, "Temporary hair color does not penetrate the cortex or the hair. Instead, it coats the outside of the hair shaft with color that washes out in one or two shampoos." So just a couple of washes and there you have it; your hair is as good as new!

Temporary Hair Color Trends To Try Right Now

Licorice Red

This is one of the most popular styles at the moment with so many celebrities donning this style. One of my favorites has to be Dua Lipa with this shade of bright licorice red that looks fab on her! I would recommend this color if you have darker undertones because it would compliment the red in such a beautiful way. To achieve this stunning look, you can use ArcticFox's Semi-Permanent Hair Dye in the shade Poison! It's super pigmented and incredibly easy to use from the comfort of your very own home. We like the sound of that!

Blonde Highlights

Temporary hair dye allows you to have so much fun with your hair and venture out into things you've been wanting to try! Blonde highlights are so easy to try and if you've been wanting to take the plunge but were unsure before then temporary hair dye will be your bestie! Give this luxurious light ombre look a try like Ciara's stunning highlights pictured here.

Light Pink Highlights

This color is so much fun for festival season because you don't have to commit to doing your whole hair, you can simply dye a few sections lightly to give off a highlighted look. Hair expert and colorist, Andrea Cottin from The Hairstyle Review, says, "If you’re looking to change up your hair without commitment, temporary color can be an excellent option. One of my favorite brands is Good Dye Young who carries a product called “I’m Bored” and lasts 2-6 washes. To apply, simply emulsify and apply to freshly washed hair in sections and then blow dry." It't that simple!

Andrea also says, "It comes in lots of colors and my personal favorite is pink as it has been trending in the salon. Another option is by Brite. It’s 100% compostable, and gentle on your hair. It’s applied like a conditioning mask and lasts 5-30 washes. This might be a better choice for those who want a bit more longevity without committing to a permanent color." You heard it here first, folks! Pink is going to be the color of the season!

Root Touch-Up Brown

Did you know that if you're in a pinch and can't make it to the salon for a root touch-up that you can get temporary dye to fix up your roots? You just spray directly onto your roots for a nice touch-up to get a natural look like Lucy Hale above! Hair expert Marcy Cona, Global Creative Director at Clairol says, "Root Touch-Up Spray (Temporary): Recently, TikTok users have discovered that using root touch-up sprays are not only beneficial for gray coverage, but can also be used as a fun and easy way to transform your hair to try out a different shade temporarily. If you’re looking to experiment with a new hair color without the commitment, you can try this hack with Clairol’s Root Touch-Up Color + Volume 2-in-1 Temporary Hair Coloring Spray, available in a range of colors, including black, dark brown, dark to medium blonde, light brown, and medium brown."

Rose Gold Hue

This is a new development for me as I'm just finding out that you can dye your hair rose gold! Don't mind me sprinting to Ulta ASAP to grab the Kristen Ess Rose Gold Tinting Spray. This new color is sure to be your next summer and festival staple and I bet all the girlies will be asking you where you got it! Bonus? It washes right out so you don't have to worry about the color lingering post-festival season when you're back at your 9-5.

Copper Red

We've seen ginger and copper-toned hair take the world by complete storm! I may be biased but as a fellow ginger myself, I think that gingers have the most fun! So try out this style for a fresh new look like Kendall Jenner did above for a few months. Temporary dye is the best way to see what colors best suit your face and complexion!

If there are two things you can count on, it's that I'm always thinking about Gilmore Girls and I'm always listening to Taylor Swift. As soon as I pressed play on The Tortured Poets Department, I could tell this album would resonate with so many experiences I had a child and a teenager. I've always been imaginative (and, admittedly, a bit spacey), and to this day, I never leave home without a book.

I've built thousands of imaginary worlds and crafted endless stories, but have always had difficulty keeping up with real-world relationships. So, needless to say, when I listened to Taylor Swift's new album and heard "I Hate It Here" and "The Bolter," I felt seen. I also realized these two songs would speak to Rory Gilmore in the same way!

Rory Gilmore Would Love "I Hate It Here" By Taylor Swift...

Image via Warner Bros. TV

"I Hate It Here" totally showcases Taylor Swift's ability to express raw emotions, and it also perfectly captures Rory Gilmore's struggles during certain periods of her life. The lyrics reflect frustration and dissatisfaction we can all feel sometimes (I know I've definitely felt them), and while Rory and Taylor's dreams in and of themselves are different, they both want to leave their small towns to achieve them. Whether it's feeling overwhelmed by expectations or facing setbacks in her career in Gilmore Girls season 5, Rory has moments throughout the series where she feels a bit trapped.

But even more than the physical meaning of the song is the imaginary one. Taylor sings about creating worlds in her mind and diving into books to escape the mundane. Rory reads more than any fictional character I've ever seen before because she also craves that escapism! The lyrics of "I Hate It Here" resonate with Rory when she wants to live different lives, and it encapsulates the moments when she struggles or questions her decisions — relatable!

...And She'd Feel Attacked By "The Bolter" By Taylor Swift

Image via Warner Bros. TV

TBH, I'm half convinced "The Bolter" is referencing Amy March (after all, Amy has been "reviled" by readers for hundreds of years, and she "almost drowned...in frigid water" like Taylor sings), which is just another literary reference Rory would pick up on.

In "The Bolter," Taylor Swift captures the essence of a woman constantly seeking adventure and change, just like Rory Gilmore, and it's all about the idea of a restless spirit. While the lyrics can be taken from a hypothetical standpoint (feeling trapped by relationships or other people's expectations), we can also talk about it literally considering Rory physically runs away from Jess.

Rory might desire love, but the idea of it also scares her — two facts that don't cancel each other out! Just like Taylor Swift, I think Rory's thrilled by the idea of escape simply because she's so risk averse in other areas of her life. Once again, I say, relatable!!

"The Bolter" and "I Hate It Here" are both incredibly engaging songs because they highlight just how complex we are as humans — both in the ways we relate to ourselves and other people. And they're just two Taylor Swift songs Rory would definitely add to her playlist.

Warmer weather just entered the chat, and with that comes so much opportunity to try something new to get you out of the winter funk — including new spring hair color trends for 2024. But trying a new color can feel tricky at times, so we turned to hair experts to let us know what the latest trends are and how to best achieve the look. Looking for a new cut to shape your face? Or perhaps a new color to go with your complexion? We've got it all, so keep scrolling for your new hair inspo for spring and summer!

Hair Trend: Old Money Highlights + 90's Supermodel Layers

Photo via @igksalons

This new hairstyle is the key to getting that luxurious, old money look. The light blonde highlights really help to accentuate your face and the butter blonde is so flattering. Pairing it with heavy '90s supermodel layers and a blowout are sure to give you that rich, luxe look that you're seeking.

Chase Kusero, Co-founder of IGK Hair Care said this about the Old Money highlight trend, "I love a nice buttery blonde that gives a healthy “Old Money” look. For upkeep, two great golden shades in the IGK Permanent Color Kits are Almost Blonde and Olsens – these are a great way to achieve the same look at home."

Hair Trend: Messy Bangs + Espresso Martini Brown

Photo via @igksalons

This cute, classic shade and cut speaks for itself. It's a pure brown that looks flattering on many different skin tones and face shapes. We love this coloring with a beautiful messy curtain bang like presented above — think Sabrina Carpenter bangs for this cut.

Our resident hair expert, Chase Kusero, said, "I also love this beautiful chocolate brunette with a lot of shine – kind of like an Espresso Martini color. For brunettes, a beautiful chocolate shade in the IGK Permanent Color Kits is Hot Chestnut or Bold Brown. I would top it off with IGK Color Depositing Mask in shade Electric Bronze." Sounds perfect to us!

Hair Trend: Red Tones

Photo via @renee.valerie

If you've been considering jumping the gun and going full-force into this trend, then we've got the scoop for you! I've seen so many people go red and it ended up being the most flattering look for their coloring.

Hair expert and colorist Renee Valerie says, "Red tones are experiencing a surge in popularity this year. They can lean towards a copper-based Clementine, which is a brighter and richer take on the golden copper we have seen the last few years, or a rose-hued Ruby Slipper – think Dua Lipa."

Hair Trend: Honeysuckle Highlights

Photo via @randco

This hairstyle is definitely here to stay! The tone of it blends so effortlessly but the highlights make for the most beautiful blonde. It's incredibly sought after at the moment, due to its striking look with fun dimension in the highlights. We absolutely love this trend, and we know you will too!

Hair expert Renee Valerie says, "Honeysuckle-toned, dimensional blondes continue to be a highly sought-after choice. We can expect to see their popularity grow even further this year. This trend is favored for its ability to infuse hair with a radiant shine, making it a timeless and glamorous option for many. I would use R+COLOR in shade Honeysuckle to achieve this look."

Hair Trend: Hitchcock Blonde

Photo via @renne.valerie

I love this stark white, and have seen it circulating the internet heavily as of late. It's definitely a fun way to try a new style and go bold! After all, spring and summer is the perfect time to try something new, given the fresh start of it all! Warm weather, a tan, and a nice vacation would go perfectly with this bold hairstyle.

Hair colorist Renee Valerie says, "The “Hitchcock Blonde” or "icy blonde" epitomizes sophistication with its cool, understated platinum shade. This color creates timeless elegance and effortlessly adds a touch of luxury to any style.I would use R+COLOR in shade Hitchcock to achieve this look."

Bathroom decor is having a moment, becoming more than just a place to wipe and wash. Instead, they're turning into what some are calling spathrooms with big bathtubs, open showers, saunas, and spa-like amenities, according to 2024 design trend report by Cosentino. One trend putting the "room" in bathroom is the bathroom library, which fits right into the vintage, grandmillennial and cottagecore trends, with built-in shelves above vanities, around commodes, and front and center to warm up a bathroom vibe. Here's the skinny on these neat nooks and how you can make one yourself!

Design: De Rosee Salon | Photo: Astrid Templier

But some of us at here aren't so sure. What do you think? For me, I'm a bath lover and reader, so the combo is definitely appealing. However, I definitely would worry about moisture ruining my precious novels, or guests lingering in the bathroom too long, wrapped up in a good book. But those cons aside, I dig the idea of a book nook in my bathroom, especially for my kiddo who loves when I read to her in the bath, and is even now a voracious reader herself.

If you're into the idea and want to start with a small library vs. splurging on some fancy built-ins, then here are some shelving ideas that are perfect for books in a bathroom.
