Prepare for Winter With This Game of Thrones Group Costume

Here’s a little behind-the-scenes at B+C secret for you. There are so many of us who are obsessed with Game of Thrones that we even have a Slack channel dedicated to it, and we shamelessly post in it year round. Oh what? You don’t think that’s weird at all? Great, then you’re in the right place, because today we’re going to teach you and your GoT-addicted crew how to dress up as some of the most loved and hated characters from this series for Halloween. We’re going with looks from season seven, and it’s admittedly a little bit more goth than seasons past. Scroll down for the Game of Thrones costumes.

CERSEI LANNISTER Costume

First up, we’ve got the nefarious Cersei Lannister. Draped in a tight black gown in season seven as she takes a seat on the iron throne, Cersei’s darkness continues to shine through.

Materials and Tools:

  • black satin dress
  • black turtleneck
  • black boots
  • silver lace applique
  • old lace tablecloth
  • metallic pewter spray paint
  • glitter
  • hot glue
  • silver tiara

Costume Details: Misty found a long black satin dress at a thrift store and was able to cut the top off and turn it into a high waisted skirt that she paired with a black turtleneck. The lace applique is a combination of a piece of an old tablecloth (also found at the thrift store) and silver appliques that she found at a craft store. Before gluing them with hot glue to the top, she spray painted them with a metallic pewter and then threw rainbow glitter over the top for some sparkle. The tiara is from a craft store but can be found online, if you don’t have any luck finding one in person.

Hair: To fake this super short pixie cut, you can either order a wig or, if your hair is the right color and length, you can pull it up into a twisted high ponytail and then leave the ends of the ponytail out as the bangs around your face. Place the crown over the pony and pin any loose ends in place. So easy to fake it! If all this isn’t an option for you, find any inexpensive reddish blonde wig, and then take your scissors to it and cut it really short.

Makeup: Keep your skin natural and dewy and go minimal on your shadow, mascara, and eyeliner. Rock a peachy-nude lip to pull it together.

JAIME LANNISTER Costume

Jaime’s attire is as straightforward as his love for his sister. Or is it? (I’m admittedly writing this after only having seen three episodes of the most recent season, and I get the feeling he’s questioning his unwavering dedication to his one true love.)

Materials and Tools:

Costume Details: This was another thrift store gem! Misty found the long brown leather coat as-is — there were surprisingly a lot to choose from. The belt he wears is long, so she attached the faux leather fabric using hot glue to the belt that came with the jacket. Tuck the sword into the belt wrapped around the jacket to use as your holster. The glove just needs to be spray painted gold to replicate his golden hand. You can probably pull the rest of the look from your closet or the ever faithful Amazon.

JON SNOW Costume

Your friends might have to fight over who gets to be our hero, Jon Snow. May the one with the most dragon glass win! We actually think an entire Jon Snow group costume would be worthwhile. Night’s Watch Jon Snow, Wildling-Lover Jon Snow, Dead Jon Snow, Battling-Ramsey Jon Snow, and King of the North Jon Snow would all be great. But for our costume today, we’re focusing on the most recent version of his character. Cloaked in fur and ready for battle (though when isn’t he), Jon Snow is ready for winter.

Materials and Tools:

  • black cloak
  • faux fur in black and a variety of colors
  • faux black leather
  • faux beige leather
  • gray gloves
  • black shoes
  • hot glue
  • safety pins

Costume Details: Misty ended up buying a black velvet robe from the thrift store and cutting it open to use as the cloak. Just glue or safety pin various pieces of faux fur onto the top of the cloak to create the shoulder piece. Misty was able to find leftover strips of fur for cheap at the craft store. For the armor, fold two yards of the beige faux leather over and cut out the hole for your head. If the sides need to be trimmed to fit your body, go ahead and do that. Then you can create the black faux leather straps in a cross over the upper portion of the armor and either attach with hot glue or safety pins. We used the same beige faux leather to make arm straps and leg wraps.

SANSA STARK COstume

Sansa’s character development in season seven is highlighted by her attire. As she dons Cersei’s old hairstyle and gets called out by Jon Snow for sounding like she admires the villain, we watch her change and grow into a different woman than we’ve seen in past seasons. (Quit spending time with Little Finger, Sansa!) Hanging out in the north, she’s keeping warm under furs and capes.

Materials and Tools:

  • black cloak
  • faux fur in gray + white
  • gray dress
  • black high-waisted belt
  • silver chain + hoop
  • black boots
  • black satin gloves

Costume Details: Layer the belt over the gray dress, then connect the chain to a silver ring or hoop that you can use to attach the fur around your shoulders. To make the smock and cloak, Misty used a similar method to Jon’s costume: an old satin robe from the thrift store as the base with the fur cut out and pinned or glued to the shoulders. Throw on some satin gloves and some high-waisted boots, and you’re ready to go!

Hair: If you don’t have long red luscious locks, then you can purchase a wig from Amazon! Otherwise pull half up into a ponytail and call it a day.

Makeup: This look is really natural and nude. Add some highlighter to your cheekbones and a deep nude lipstick and shadow to keep the look simple.

DAENERYS TARGARYEN Costume (Khaleesi)

The silver-haired queen continues onward, never veering from her path toward glory as the ruler of the seven kingdoms. Talk about making a #lifegoal and sticking to it! Daenerys wins. Not unlike the other ladies of GoT, she is outfitted in darker colors in season seven, a departure from her more vibrantly colored dresses from the days of yore.

Materials and Tools:

  • deep gray business suit
  • red velvet fabric
  • black boots
  • silver chain
  • silver tape
  • hot glue

Costume Details: It was insanely difficult to find this look, so Misty had to make it! She cut up an old business suit that she found at a thrift store and turned it into a skirt. Then she wrapped the blazer over itself to create the same silhouette. To do this, cut out the center seam along the legs and crotch of the pants, then wrap them over each other to create a skirt. Misty used hot glue to attach it and make the skirt — sewing is for the really advanced :) Create the velvet sash by attaching silver chain to it with silver tape. Misty tried to create the shape of the dragon head with the tape.

Hair: If you have blonde hair, then you can style your own. If not, order a wig off Amazon and follow the same styling tips. Leave out a half-inch section of hair around the perimeter of your face. Then create three inside-out French braids going back toward the center of the back of your head. Connect all three braids using a small elastic, then wrap a piece of hair around the elastic to disguise it. Curl the front parts of your hair into small ringlets and the remaining hair in the back in the same fashion. If you end up with the wig option, be sure that the wig is curly, because you can’t use heat on most costume wigs. They’ll melt :(

Makeup: Go really pale and use whites and creams to play up her look. She is really luminous and has a flawless and bright look.

We’re not sure if all of these characters can really handle being in a room together.

Be sure to get into your role. Practice your facial expressions in the mirror. No shame!

If you and your friends dress up as a GoT group, we want to see what you make! Tweet us a photo @BritandCo.

If you follow along on B+C, you’ve seen and admired our canine model, Turkey Temple (one of my favorite pet names, TBH). He is definitely a turkey by trade but clearly not by species. It seems like an obvious choice, but this was Turkey’s first time dressing up as a turkey for Halloween. Spooky season might be over, but it's *always* a good idea to dress your dog up for Thanksgiving if they don't mind!!

I’ve been making a lot of pet costumes this year, but this one has been high on my list for a long time. With some felt and One-Wrap Velcro, we created this pet costume in no time at all. Does your pet have a goofy name? Try dressing them up as their name, and make sure you snap photos and share them with us on Instagram! Oh, and don't forget to check out our 46 Cute Dogs Guaranteed To Make You Smile, too!

How To Make A Dog Turkey Costume

Tools And Materials:

  • red, orange, yellow and white felt
  • cardboard
  • One-Wrap Velcro
  • pen
  • fabric scissors
  • hot glue gun

Instructions:

1. Draw large, long oval feathers on your yellow felt. Stack the yellow felt on top of the orange felt and cut them both out. Next, draw a curved rectangular shape on the white felt and cut it out.

2. Hot glue the white rectangular shapes to the feathers, then glue the feathers to one another to create a fan shape.

3. Glue a horizontal strip of cardboard to the back of the feathers to help them stand upright.

4. Hot glue a piece of felt to each edge of the feathers and attach a strip of One-Wrap Velcro that is long enough to wrap around your dog’s belly.

5. Cut out a gobble from red felt and attach some One-Wrap Velcro.

Draw 12 long feathers on your yellow felt. Stack the yellow felt on top of the orange felt and cut out your feathers. Cut 12 white curved rectangular pieces to accent the feathers.

Glue the white pieces to the feathers and then glue the feathers to one another into a fan shape.

Attach a long strip of cardboard to the back of the feathers to help them stand up straight once the dog turkey costume is assembled.

Hot glue a piece of felt to each edge of the feathers and attach a strip of One-Wrap Velcro that is long enough to wrap around your dog’s belly.

Draw a gobble onto a piece of red felt, cut it out and glue it to a small piece of One-Wrap Velcro.

Hey Turkey — here’s your turkey costume!

Attach the gobble to your dog by wrapping the One-Wrap Velcro around the collar.

Cutest turkey I ever did see!

When the WGA and SAG-AFTRA unions went on strike, the industry immediately began feeling the effects. Late night shows like SNL and The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon stopped production immediately, and pre-production on shows like Stranger Things 5 halted. The end of the writers' strike means that pre-production on scripted content can resume, but we're still waiting to hear whether the end of the actors' strike means production can begin. That means it's going to take even *longer* for our favorite shows to release new seasons. After the delay that COVID caused, this is ... less than great news. Here's the latest info on which titles have been delayed, and when you can expect them.

Stranger Things 5

Stranger Things. (L to R) Maya Hawke as Robin Buckley, Joe Keery as Steve Harrington, Priah Ferguson as Erica Sinclair, Natalia Dyer as Nancy Wheeler, and Sadie Sink as Max Mayfield in "Stranger Things."

"Writing does not stop when filming begins," Matt and Ross Duffer, co-creators and co-showrunners, tweeted on May 6. "While we’re excited to start production with our amazing cast and crew, it is not possible during this strike. We hope a fair deal is reached soon so we can all get back to work."

The Duffers went on to confirm in September that pre-production has resumed following the end of the writers' strike, but they won't be able to film until the actors' strike ends.

White Lotus Season 3

Image via HBO

The new season of White Lotus was supposed to be on our screens sooner rather than later, but it's been pushed to the next calendar year. "WhiteLotus Season 3, that was going to be ’24 and that’s likely moving into 2025,” said HBO and Max Content Chairman and CEO Casey Bloys, via Deadline.

The Last of Us Season 2

HBO is hoping to begin production on The Last of Us season 2 in 2024, meaning we'll probably see it in 2025.

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight

On May 7, author George R. R. Martin published a blog post confirming that the new Game of Thrones spinoff had ceased pre-production, while season two of House of the Dragon has already begun filming.

"The scripts for the eight s2 episodes were all finished months ago, long before the strike began," Martin says. "The writers have done their jobs; the rest is in the hands of the directors, cast and crew… and of course the dragons)."

They hope to begin production in the spring, via Variety, should the SAG-AFTRA strike end.

Spider-Man 4

Image via Columbia Pictures/Marvel Studios/Sony Pictures/IMDb

During the New York City premiere of A Crowded Room, Tom Holland told Variety that a fourth Spider-Man was in its very early stages of development.

“I can say that we have been having meetings. We’ve put the meetings on pause in solidarity with the writers,” he said. “There’s been multiple conversations had, but at this point it’s very, very early stages.”

The WGA strike may have ended, but we still don't know when this movie could begin filming.

Co-creator Ashley Lyle confirmed on Twitter that after one day in the writer's room for season three, pre-production has stopped: "It was amazing, and creatively invigorating, and so much fun, and I’m very excited to get back to it as soon as the #WGA gets a fair deal."

The writer's room is able to get back to work, but we'll have to wait for the actors to get the all clear before filming can begin.

Bunk'd

Deadline confirmed on May 7 that production on this Disney Channel comedy stopped, meaning we can expect a delay in the newest season.

Cobra Kai

Co-creator Jon Hurwitz tweeted on May 2 that production on the next season of this Netflix show stopped. "We hate to strike, but if we must, we strike hard," he said at the time. "Pencils down in the Cobra Kai writers room. No writers on set. These aren't fun times, but it's unfortunately necessary."

However, pre-production can now resume on the final season of the show!

Blade

The Marvel film was paused because of the WGA strike, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Abbott Elementary

Abbott Elementary Season 2 Trailer

Writing for Abbott Elementary's third season was intended for May 2, the same day the strike began. Writer Brittani Nichols says in an interview with Democracy Now! that the season could be delayed as a whole (and this was before the actors' strike): "That could change the amount of episodes, which people I’m sure will be very upset about. It could change the air date. It could change a lot of different things.”

“I am a writer. I’m in the WGA. I’m also on strike!" creator, executive producer, and star Quinta Brunson tweeted at the time. "I have no real power here other than to join my union in demanding fair compensation for writers!”

Daredevil: Born Again

After disrupting the series' film schedule on May 8, Daredevil: Born Again shut down for the time being on May 10.

Good Trouble

WGA picketers stopped production for Freeform's Good Trouble on May 9. "They got NO shooting done today. We got this done with a small crew of writers who started at 4am, and the cavalry of the Teamsters grips, electricians, crew etc.," @JorgeCoolReyes tweeted.

Since the actors still can't film, we won't be able to see the rest of the season for an indefinite period of time.

The Chi

The Chi stopped production on May 12 after "@IATSE 476 and @Teamsters Local 727 refused to cross the picket line," @ZaydDohrn tweeted.

Filming for Pretty Little Liars: Summer School has been interrupted by the strike.

The Emmys are now scheduled for January 15, 2024.

The Penguin

The Batman spinoff series, was shut down for the day on May 16. Picketers also came to strike "outside a Harlem cemetery, to defend Gotham from The Penguin," according to a tweet from @warrenleightTV.

I have such a love/hate relationship with haircuts. While I love the feeling of a fresh look as much as the next girl, I hate having to spend $100+ for a simple cut and blow dry session. During my recent trim, I talked with my hairdresser, Jack Rehak of Jack’s Hair Design in Hinsdale, Illinois, about ways to keep a haircut looking new and best practices for keeping hair healthy. Here's what he had to say!

Here's How Often You Should Cut Your Hair, According To Professionals

I’ll admit it — it had been eight months since my last haircut. My hair had lost its shape, my layers were nowhere to be found, and my ends were begging for mercy. Life got busy over the last few months and I was neglecting my haircare like never before.

My hairdresser could immediately see that I was beyond due for a cut and said I needed to get more taken off than I was hoping. I was definitely disappointed — I'd been working on growing out my hair for a while now, and it just felt like my hard work had completely gone to waste. He explained that getting consistent haircuts is the key to growing out healthy and strong hair, rather than letting it grow and grow until it eventually breaks. So let's dig into the top three things you can do to avoid this scenario!

1. Just Get The Dang Haircut

Also avoiding a haircut like I was? You might want to schedule one at your nearest salon. Like my stylist said, when you wait too long between trims like I did, you risk your hair becoming heavy, dull, and lifeless. When the hair is dry or even dead, it’s nearly impossible for it to hold a curl or style, essentially collapsing on you and taking on more and more heat damage all the while. I know the pain of spending time on a blowout only for it to fall minutes later — it’s the worst.

According to Jack, getting a haircut every 10-12 weeks is the best time frame or your ends will pay the price. Between blow-drying, curling, straightening, sun, and weather, our ends get dry and start to break without the proper care. Getting consistent haircuts allows hair to bounce back, shine, and perform the way we want in a healthy way.

2. Leave-In Conditioners Are Your Friend

His top piece of advice to keep your hair looking and feeling hydrated between trims? Invest in conditioning treatments. Jack swears by the Olaplex conditioning system, specifically the No 3 Hair Perfector. Made with patented OLAPLEX Bond Building Technology™, this conditioning treatment repairs and prevents damage in as little as three minutes. No 3 promises to reduce breakage and visibly strengthen hair, so it’s the perfect assistance to keep ends fresh between cuts. Another conditioning treatments I’ve used and loved for years is the Moroccanoil Intense Hydrating Mask, which is designed to restore moisture, elasticity, and shine to dry hair.

3. Switch Up Your Shampoos

Switching shampoos frequently is a pretty hot tip that I honestly hadn't thought of. Our hair gets used to the same products and grows tired of them, resulting in lackluster locks. Jack’s advice is to switch brands after finishing every bottle of shampoo to bring life back to your hair. Have two brands that you’re loyal to? Even switching back and forth between them after every bottle should make a big difference in your hair. I’m a huge fan of the R+Co Dallas Biotin Thickening Shampoo, which makes my hair look thick and full, as well as the Moroccanoil Hydrating Shampoo, which is so hydrating and gives so much shine.

In the end, navigating your back-and-forth relationship with haircuts often feels like a rollercoaster ride between wanting that fresh look and cringing at the receipt. Luckily, by using conditioning treatments and switching up your products,, you can keep your locks healthy, shiny, and full of life between trims. But take a newly learned lesson out of my book: don't let your ends pay the price for procrastination and just book the haircut.
