Parents can lead complex lives, sometimes shielding their children from any less desirable aspects in the process. Upcoming book-to-TV series Black Cake explores just this. A Jenna Bush Hager's book club pick, the TV-adaptation of Charmaine Wilkerson's Black Cake introduces family matriarch Eleanor Bennett who decides to reveal dark truths to her adult children...only after her death.

Unlike some of our fave TV moms who always keep it real, Bennett chose to do the opposite. Before we pass judgement, it's worth noting she felt justified because she ultimately feared for her safety. We know this doesn't excuse keeping secrets from your kids, but we can relate to burying a secret or two for a certain amount of time. Even if you'd never hold a secret so close to your chest, Black Cake is one series that'll keep you on the edge of your seat this fall. Here are all the amazing details about it!

What's the plot of "Black Cake"?

After being distant for some time, two siblings — Byron and Benny — find themselves together again after receiving news of their mother's death. When they begin listening to their mother weave a portrait of her past, they realize everything isn't what it seems and must find a way to repair their relationship for the sake her legacy.

Where does "Black Cake" take place?

According to The Today Show, the series will begin in Jamaica where Bennett is from. From there it'll pick up in California where Bennett spent the remainder of her days.

Who's in the cast of "Black Cake"?

Black Cake stars names like Mia Isaac, Chipo Chung, and Faith and Glynn Turman.

Who's executive producing "Black Cake"?

The Today Show also shared that alongside Marissa Jo Cerar and Aaron Kaplan of Kapital Entertainment, Harpo Films — Oprah Winfrey's production company — will serve as the executive producers.

When and where can you watch "Black Cake"?

Black Cake will premiere on Hulu November 1, 2023 with the first three episodes available to watch.

How many episodes will "Black Cake" have?

There will be 8 episodes of Black Cake that'll be released every Wednesday.

Watch The Trailer For "Black Cake"

Black Cake's trailer hints at a possible arranged marriage and "unexplained" disappearance that affect the course of history. Will siblings Byron and Benny be able to come to terms with their mother's past or will this drive a bigger wedge between them? We'll have to wait until November to watch how everything unfolds!
