You’ll Never Guess What City Has the Most Lemonade Stands (+ Entrepreneurial Kids)
Summer is in full force, which means we’re seeing lots of dreamy outdoor spaces, delicious ice cream cones and of course, everyone’s favorite startup: the neighborhood lemonade stand. If you thought starting your own business in college was a way to get a head start on your career, some kids across America are taking an even bigger step ahead. They’re setting up stands with regular consistency, a variety of baked good offerings and mad negotiation skills. (Seriously, when did lemonade start to cost more than a buck?)
But what city can call itself the top dog for lemonade stands (and young entrepreneurial spirit)? According to Nextdoor, a private social network for neighborhoods across America, Jackson, Miss. takes the lemonade top prize, followed by San Francisco and Austin. No surprise that the top three cities can hold their own in the heat index too. Check out the other cities that rounded out the top 10 in the infographic below.
To find out where lemonade stands ruled, Nextdoor looked at conversations taking place on their platform from June 2015 – June 2016 specifically about “lemonade stands.” The conversations were sourced from anonymous, aggregated posts and events shared on the social network. The site also noted that, on average, conversations about lemonade stands increase by 350 percent during the hot summer months.
From the looks of it, there may be some future #girlbosses in the making across the country, not to mention some social good-focused business owners as well; several stands donated all their earnings to charity. All we can say is: Keep it up, kiddos!
