3 Bold Ways to Transform Your Sneaks for International Women’s Day
This season is all about making a statement. From sweaters with a message to statement bags that start a conversation, there is no time like the present to make your #OOTD mean something more. We transformed these everyday sneaks for International Women’s Day so you could step out and #beboldforchange. We’ll show you three easy ways to DIY your plain ole shoes so you can take to the streets in style. These sneaks are made for walkin’ and so are you!
Materials and Tools:
Grab an assortment of supplies, get your girls together, and let’s get started!
This technique can be an obvious one, but sometimes it’s difficult to get started with some good design inspiration. We took a note out of Keith Haring’s awesomely bold book and created some bold line illustrations and dynamic accents on a notebook first, and then drew these directly onto the sneakers in pencil.
Follow up on your pencil lines with a thin paintbrush and some black fabric paint. This paint is made of a rubbery material that stays put if these get wet!
This technique was inspired by those kooky floral swim caps you may have seen in synchronized swimming! Simply cut a bunch of irregular flower shapes (these DO NOT need to be identical) out of pleather and secure to your shoes with a small dot of fabric glue on the center of each flower.
We combined white and silver flowers for a subtle difference in color and texture.
Remember the pencil first, fabric paint second routine? Repeat here to create the “BE BOLD” messaging on the heels, and then surround your dried paint with rhinestones. We first arranged our rhinestones on the table in a long strip, approximately the height of the shoe, and then glued them in place one at a time, using fabric glue.
Let dry and these are ready to rock out on the streets!
There’s no place like home; there’s no place like home.
Tori is expertly demonstrating exactly what to do when you’re done making these sneaks — jump for joy!!
Be bold. Be brave. Be heard. Make change.
And look damn good doing it!
