See What Your State’s Favorite Food Emoji Is on This Nifty Infographic
With so much deliciousness waiting for us this Thanksgiving, we all certainly have a lot to be thankful for. It’s the season of food. We’re talking mashed potatoes, candied yams, pumpkin pie and turkey. Honestly, we’re getting hungry just thinking about it. We know Americans love to eat — and we also love our smartphones — so it’s no surprise that we love our food emojis too.
Recently, the folks over at Swiftkey, a smart prediction keyboard for your phone, analyzed billions of emoji data points to determine the most popular food emojis used in each state and released what they found in a handy little infographic. Lots of states certainly love the eggplant emoji, though we suspect not for any food-related reason ;) (we’re looking at you Louisiana, Nevada, New York and others). But other revelations aren’t all that surprising. Washington, originator of Starbucks, loves the coffee cup. Californians can’t quit that sushi. As for Hawaii? They’re all about the pineapple, baby.
Swiftkey also released the top ten food emojis used in the US overall — and surprisingly, some of them don’t show up in the state-by-state map:
1. Pizza
2. Coffee/hot beverage
3. Poultry leg
4. Cherries
5. Slice of cake
6. Hamburger
7. Donut
8. Ice cream cone
9. Strawberry
10. Lollipop
The top two spots go to pizza and coffee. Somehow, that makes perfect sense.
