Get Green & Gorgeous for St. Paddy’s
Ladies, this year we’re in luck. St. Patrick’s Day falls on a Saturday this year, and we think it’s the perfect excuse to get down with gorgeous greens in the beauty department. Read up as our Resident Stylist Misty breaks down 4 festive green makeup looks, and 2 lovely nail options. And if you don’t have St. Paddy’s plans, might we suggest a round of Boozy Irish Cupcakes and Jameson Pudding Shots? Get ready to represent yourself as an honorary Irish gal all weekend long!
Green-Eyed Kitty 1: Our first festive take on the traditional cat eye.
First, I used a color similar to my skin tone to contour the crease of my eyelid. I then filled in the rest of my eyelid with a light sheer green for a little extra pop of color. Be sure not to go too bright, because you don’t want it to take away from the main focus, the cat eye. Like most people, I don’t actually own a lime green eyeliner so I used an eyeliner brush dipped in water and a lime green eyeshadow to paint faux eyeliner on my eyelid. To finish the look, I lined the inside of my upper eyelid with black to enhance the green and added my favorite Benefit mascara, as mentioned in our Everyday Makeup Essentials post.
Green-Eyed Kitty 2: You guessed it. A second take on the cat eye.
On our Creative Director Anjelika, I added a gradient effect by starting off in the center of her eye using a lime green, and blending outward into a deeper Kelly green. Instead of using black eyeliner to pop the green, I used a liquid glitter eyeliner. Urban Decay makes one of the best ones on the market. Lastly, gave her a couple coats of mascara and voila, you’ve got your second green-eyed kitty.
Underneath It All: Cue the No Doubt song of the same name. ;)
Who says eyeshadow only belongs on your eyelids? Not I! For this look, I used the same faux eyeliner technique with a lime and Kelly green shadow, only this time I used it underneath my eye. To create a sort of smokey affect, I smudged it out with my brush onto the outer corners of my eyes. With the same Urban Decay glitter eyeliner, I drew on a hint of glitter at the outer and inner corners of each eye. By leaving the space in between the glitter, you create a much more subtle but still very festive effect.
Kiss of Green: A little bit flirty, a little bit fluttery, and perfect for a daytime celebration.
You don’t have to be Irish for him to kiss you! He will be puckering up for sure when he catches a glimpse of this flirty fluttery look. All I did was contour the crease of her eye with a golden shimmery shadow and smudged green eyeshadow on the upper outer corner of the base of her eyelid. Lastly I applied a bronze eyeliner to Anj's upper and lower eyelid, coated those lovely lashes with mascara and she is ready to flutter away.
For nails, we suggest keeping things simple. If you’re all greened out, go for hot pink polish with a pink sparkle. If you’re more of a wear all black and sport green on your nails kind of gal, we recommend green polish with green sparkle, and a couple gold nails to add a little pop.
