‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Star Giacomo Gianniotti Opens Up About Meredith and DeLuca’s Romantic Future
Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) has been exploring multiple romantic options as Grey’s Anatomy’s “season of love” continues. And according to Giacomo Gianniotti, who plays Andrew DeLuca, there’s still plenty of love triangle drama to come between Meredith, DeLuca, and Chris Carmack’s Link, AKA the “Ortho God.”
“It’s been a lot of fun to see how they’ve been playing up the love triangle, the comedy with it, and how much fun Meredith is having,” Gianniotti recently told ET. “I think DeLuca is having a great time balancing everything and having a healthy competition between him and Link, which is fun to watch and fun to play. In the next couple of episodes, we’re going to see a lot more from both sides. Both Link and DeLuca share more common ground and continue this love triangle.”
Gianniotti admits that his character has an advantage over Carmack’s due to the time DeLuca and Meredith have spent together over the years. In the recent fall finale (and in January’s winter premiere), the longtime TV coworkers were trapped together in an elevator, where they grew closer as DeLuca opened up about his personal life.
“I hear that that’s an attractive quality to women — men who talk about their feelings and aren’t this iron-clad gate who don’t talk about their emotions,” Gianniotti joked. “That’s something positive about him and we’ll see where it goes.”
Producers of Grey’s Anatomy teased early on that Meredith would see some developments in her personal life in season 15 after spending time focusing on her career and on raising her three children. Following the death of her husband Derek (Patrick Dempsey) in season 11, she’s more than deserving of finding love again — but Gianniotti prefers to keep quiet on whether she’ll do so with his character.
“Let’s not get ahead of ourselves, let’s see how things play out and then we can get to that after,” he told ET. “If you play something too early, you can’t get yourself out of it. Sometimes more interesting opportunities present themselves down the line, not just for love and relationships but also storylines. … It’s about keeping it open for forks down the road that we can get to.”
