Why 50 Million People Have Watched Jody Steel’s Stunning Body Positive Video
Body image is something that many of us deal with (and struggle with, tbh) throughout our lives — something that changes and evolves just as much as our individual bodies do. We, of course, do our best to be body-positive, but in a society that enforces some brutally rigid expectations on our figures, it can get pretty tough. Seriously, it’s no wonder that Jody Steel’s stunning Body Image video has been viewed almost 50 million times in its first 24 hours online. 50 MILLION!

The simple yet striking video shows merely the artist’s midsection, first bare, then gradually adding layers of marker and paint. They’re manipulated to appear as a painful-looking twist. Jody adds more details, then eventually bends and stretches when her mind-boggling, body-warping masterpiece is done.
“Once I realized that naturally, I don’t have a Coke bottle figure, or long and thin legs, I began to let go of the pressures I’ve felt to fulfill an image that our society has deemed the pinnacle of beauty,” Jody explains on her Facebook page. “So let go of your demons and learn to enjoy the things you love in life. You can be healthy and happy.” We here ya, girl!
