Elopements are some of the most magical, fun-loving, intimate + totally heartfelt weddings out there. Plus, they’re the perfect excuse to do something whimsical or out of the box. That’s why when we saw how Denise and Mark hopped on a plane to NYC and tied the knot without all the stress and huge costs associated with traditional weddings, we were reminded that you don’t always have to have endless amounts of florals or a three-tiered wedding cake to say, “I do.” This sequin-filled NYC elopement, captured by Jennifer from Stylish and Hip Weddings, goes to show that all you need is your one-and-only, a few close friends and your favorite secret place. Scroll on to see how this chic couple made it all happen in the coolest spots around New York City.
Denise and Mark are super down-to-earth and laid-back Brits who knew they wanted a meaningful elopement without all the frills. So when it was time to seal the deal, they decided to get on a plane from their hometown in the United Kingdom and travel across the pond to get hitched in their favorite city: NYC.
They had an intimate ceremony at their favorite NYC spot, the Brooklyn waterfront. Best part? The gorgeous view of the Brooklyn Bridge and the Manhattan skyline in the background, of course! Their adorable ceremony proves that you don’t need much to have a stunning ceremony backdrop. If you’re digging this idea for your own nuptials, choose your favorite spot and use the space as-is, or bring a few of you own decorations to add more of your signature style.
Matt A.K.A. The Most Reverend Matt Levy — who also happens to be the photographer’s husband — is known for his witty ceremonies and was a great officiant for the couple’s fun, non-traditional wedding. During the ceremony, Denise and Mark added two strings of ribbon to the exchange to showcase their unique (and colorful!) bond. It was a sweet reflection of these two adventurous souls.
And though elopements used to mean that you’d run off and get married in secret, that’s definitely not the case anymore. Denise and Mark celebrated getting hitched by grabbing a bottle of champagne + disposable cups and toasting with their nearest and dearest. This is an inexpensive, yet super elegant way to remember your special day. Bonus points if you pack in a few mini cupcakes for some celebratory sweets with your sweetie.
If you’re anything like this duo, you’re also going to make sure you have a stylish outfit. Denise wore a slinky, sequin-encrusted maxi skirt with a simple white sheer blouse and a beautiful flower crown. This look tied together oh-so well with Mark’s tailored suit. Talk about the perfect modern look!
Once the “I do’s” were said, Denise and Mark toured their favorite city together. They spent the rest of the day exploring the NYC streets with their amazing photographer. Needless to say, these images capture the energy of their special day in the most real and authentic way. Congrats to the happy couple!

Back in January, we introduced you to a feel-good cause to inspire your New Year's resolution: a walking challenge to help raise funds for the amazing cancer fighters at The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. I took part in the challenge with the Brit + Co team and ended up walking 105+ miles in January — it was awesome.
This spring, there's a new challenge on the horizon, The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Big Climb. The ask: On May 15, 2021, you can step up to take cancer down by committing to climb 1,311 steps, walking 3.2 miles, or doing 440 chair step-ups at home as part of the Big Climb. If you need some motivation to bring movement back into your daily routine — look no further!
As always, it's free to sign up, but climbers are encouraged to set a fundraising goal to help beat cancer. We'll be organizing another Brit + Co team to step up, and I hope you'll join us too! Keep scrolling for a peek at where I'll be completing the challenge in my Los Angeles neighborhood around the hidden Silver Lake Stairs. Happy climbing!
Never underestimate the power of an accountability buddy! I asked my in-laws, my partner, and a few friends to join me so we can keep each other motivated and accountable in completing the challenge — virtual high-fives all around! Also, my dog Fox is a great climber, too.
An aesthetically pleasing backdrop is a huge motivator for me! I'm fortunate to have all sorts of painted steps around my neighborhood to keep the challenge interesting, but you can also keep cool inside with at-home chair step-ups.
Don't forget to share your progress on social — #BigClimb!
Feel free to break the challenge up if you need to by tackling half the distance in the AM and half at sunset. Here's me 1,311 steps later and ready for a break — but, think I earned this one!
