What is 'Murder in a Small Town' about?

Fox
The story centers on Karl Alberg, played by Rossif Sutherland, who had hoped to leave the chaos of his former big-city police work behind and live out a quiet life in the Gibsons community. Yet, he quickly realizes that the locale is packed with secrets, and he’ll need to use his world-class detective skills to solve the mysteries.
Is 'Murder in a Small Town' based on a book?

Fox
Yes! Murder in a Small Town is actually based on the Karl Arberg series by L.R. Wright. And what makes Rossif Sutherland’s casting so special is the fact that his late father, Donald Sutherland, had been extremely passionate about the book series.
In fact, according to Deadline, Donald Sutherland had spent a good 30 years of his life trying to adapt L. R. Wright’s award-winning book series into a film. Then, once things were finally set in motion for a movie adaptation of the popular novels, Donald was even asked to play Detective Karl Alberg. Yet tragically, due to his declining health at the time, he was unable to take on the role.
Now, his son, Rossif Sutherland, is doing justice to the role of Karl with his kind and sensitive portrayal of the empathetic detective.
Who's in the 'Murder in a Small Town' cast?

Fox
Rossif Sutherland (The Handmaid's Tale) is reprising his role of Karl Alberg, joined by his on-screen love interest, Cassandra Lee, portrayed by Kristin Kreuk (Reacher, Smallville). Other familiar faces expected to grace your TV again include Mya Lowe (Yellowjackets, My Life With The Walter Boys) as Corporal Edwina, Aaron Douglas (Stick) as Sergeant Sid Sokolowski, Fritzy-Klevans Destine (The Boys) as Constable Andy Kendrick, and Savonna Spracklin (Sherlock & Daughter) as Isabella Harbud. Meanwhile, there’s also a notable newcomer. Marcia Gay Harden (The Morning Show) will be entering the Murder in a Small Town universe as the series-regular character Mayor Christie Holman. She’s supposed to make life a bit more “complicated” for Karl and Cassandra.
What makes 'Murder in a Small Town' unique from other murder mysteries?

Fox
Since there are so many murder mystery shows to choose from, one might wonder what separates Murder in a Small Town from the countless other programs with the same formulaic and, at times, predictable outcome.
For me, it’s got to be the character of Karl Alberg himself, who refuses to fall into that clichéd “tough guy” detective act. Instead, he offers kindness and empathy to everyone he comes across, even his suspects.
According to Sutherland, Karl can "get the truth out of people with his humanity, he’s somebody who wears his heart on his sleeve, and he’s not possessed by demons."
When can you watch 'Murder in a Small Town' season 2?
