Mafia

Mafia is a Nordic Noir drama that's set in 1990s Sweden and explores the birth of organized crime in a country once considered untouched by corruption. Based on true events, the series follows Radovan "Jakov" Jakovic, a cigarette smuggler, and Gunn Thörngren, a police officer who sees a dangerous criminal network forming beneath the surface.

Despite being on opposite sides of the law, the two become wrapped up in a power play, believing they're using each other to further their own agendas. However, their alliance could have unexpected consequences.

Mafia is Swedish with English subtitles and debuts on June 19. You can watch its trailer on YouTube.

The Hunt

Now available on Viaplay is The Hunt, a Dutch crime drama based on the real-life case of Marianne Vaatstra, a teenage girl whose murder in 1999 rocked the Netherlands and remained unsolved for over a decade.

Hailed as a "milestone in Dutch television history," the award-winning series dives deep into the case, "with each episode telling the story from a different main character's perspective and exploring the impact of the murder on their lives." Cast members include Richelle Plantinga, Hans Kesting, Gijs Blom, Imanuelle Grives, Aud Greidanus Jr, Eefje Paddenburg, and Jack Wouterse.

The Bunker

The Bunker is a terrifying true crime docuseries, now available on Prime Video, that tells the story of a woman who confronts her trauma after surviving an abduction where she was imprisoned in an underground bunker.

Isabel Eriksson had gone out on a second date with Dr. Martin Trenneborg in 2015, but instead of getting butterflies, she was drugged and kidnapped. It turned out that Trenneborg had spent years creating an underground bunker to imprison women.

"Though she escaped, the psychological scars remained. Now, battling severe PTSD, Isabel returns to a reconstructed version of the bunker to confront her past," reads the series' logline.

"In The Bunker, she shares her story for the first time, revisiting the site of her captivity to shed light on the nightmare she endured. Her journey is a gripping testament to survival, resilience, and the lasting impact of unimaginable trauma."

Under the Radar

This three-part docuseries explores the disturbing case of Swedish serial killer Peter Mangs, whose trail of violence extends abroad.

Known for confessing through cryptic lyrics, Mang becomes the focus of an investigation that links his crimes to unsolved murders in Florida.

"When a notorious Swedish killer sends an unreleased song to filmmaker John Mork, it opens a chilling door into unsolved murders far beyond Scandinavia. The lyrics point to a brutal double homicide in Boca Raton, Florida, a case still without closure," Under the Radar's logline reads.

The Swedish and English true crime documentary is available to stream on Prime Video now. You can also watch the trailer on YouTube.

The Case of Iwona Wieczorek

The Case of Iwona Wieczorek

One of Poland's most perplexing missing person cases has been given its own docuseries, The Case of Iwona Wieczorek. It revisits the 2010 disappearance of a 19-year-old woman who vanished just minutes from home following a night out.

Iwona Wieczorek had recently graduated from high school and was looking forward to summering in Spain, so her case was especially puzzling, leading to questions surrounding a potential kidnapping or murder.

"Over the years, various clues have emerged. In this documentary, we take a look at the pieces in a completely new way," per Viaplay.

"From the policeman who claims the perpetrator can be identified, to the online community and journalists who have formed their own theories, to the mother of Iwona, who is destined to find her daughter."
