I'm so ready!
Cillian Murphy’s Netflix Thriller ‘Steve’ Is For ‘Abbott Elementary’ Fans — I’m Serious

If you, like me, can’t get enough of Cillian Murphy, you’re gonna want to pay attention to his upcoming Netflix thriller. The movie, titled Steve, has the Irish actor exchanging Thomas Shelby, his tough-as-nails gangster role from Peaky Blinders, for a timid teacher, Steve, on the brink of a nervous breakdown. And with the chaos of dealing with everything that comes with a school day, it's giving major Abbott Elementary vibes...maybe if AE was a little creepier.
Here's everything you need to know about Steve, coming to Netflix soon.
What is Steve the movie about?
The upcoming film is set in 1990s England and takes a look inside the halls of a reform school, which is on the brink of closure. This school takes in troubled youth who have committed crimes, and is considered a “last resort” effort to help these students become respectable citizens.
Unsurprisingly, this is no easy task, especially for the shy and idealistic Steve, who seems to have no idea what he’s up against when it comes to his classroom setting. While he has pure intentions and wants nothing more than to help the teens who have been neglected by society, he soon discovers that many of these students, at least on a purely surface level, seem to have no interest in being “saved.” This raises an existential question for Steve, who wonders if it’s worth trying to save a group of students who don’t want to be saved, especially by him.
In the trailer for the upcoming film, we see the once starry-eyed Steve unravel into a state of utter panic and anxiety. His main focus is on repairing his students, but what will he do in order to repair his own mental decline?
Is Steve, Starring The Peaky Blinders Actor, Based On A Book?

Netflix
The upcoming thriller Steve is indeed an adaptation of the best-selling 2023 novel, Shy, written by acclaimed author Max Porter. Cillian Murphy and Max Porter have a longstanding history of collaboration, as the Peaky Blinders star has acted in several of his adaptations. This includes their 2021 collab on All of This Unreal Time as well as a 2019 stage production of Grief Is the Thing With Feathers.
