Yes! In 2007, Amanda Knox was ready to embark on an adventure in Italy as part of her university’s study abroad program. She was fully prepared for a sun-soaked semester of guzzling Aperol Spritz by the Mediterranean sea, and riding around via Vespa with the company of her closest friends.

Despite this dreamy vision she anticipated, she was instead met with bloodshed, tears, and the brutal murder of her friend/roommate, Meredith Kercher. To add to her distress and heartache, Amanda herself had turned into the prime suspect in the murder investigation.

While she was initially found guilty and sentenced to 26 years in prison, newfound evidence proved Knox was innocent, and she was therefore released after four years locked behind bars.

You’d think after being released from prison, Knox’s story would come to its natural conclusion, right? You’d think that after the criminal justice system admitted to falsely accusing Knox, the general public would sympathize with her and ultimately leave her in peace...right?

Turns out, life doesn’t work that way. In fact, despite Amanda Knox’s desperate desire to return to her life of anonymity and normalcy that she experienced before she was accused, her experiences after being released from prison only seemed to get progressively worse. Despite being found innocent, half of the people who were following this case still fully believed Knox was guilty of the crime.

While the new Hulu series will showcase the events that led up to the tragic death of Meredith Kercher, as well as Knox’s prison sentence, it will also unpack the messy aftermath of what she had to face in the events that followed. While sitting down with People Magazine, Amanda explained, “There’s this moment that I see a lot in True Crime, especially in wrongful conviction stories, where you tell the story of the crime, you tell the story of the trial, you tell the story of the first hamburger they ate the minute they got out of prison,” she said. “And then the curtains go down, and they say ‘end of story.’ And I think, in fact, that’s really where the story of this person’s life begins… Now what?”
