Proposals can happen anywhere, at any moment. You could drop to one knee on a glacier in Iceland. You could pop the question in a romantic tent getaway. But any way you slice it, it’s bound to be one of the most memorable events in your life. For this sweet proposal story, Harry surprised the love of his life Noelle by proposing to her on a beach in Mexico surrounded by all her family and friends.
When Harry met Noelle, they were both attending the University of Michigan. Noelle (at the time a freshman) was introduced to Harry (then a sophomore) through a mutual friend when she was hoping to get more involved on campus. Five years later, the two can’t wait until they tie the knot.
But not everything was easy along the way. As a dual citizen, Harry was unexpectedly forced to serve in the Korean Army for two years starting August of 2014. But this past December, he finally got some vacations days to visit Noelle in LA for the holidays and join her and her family for vacation in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. So he hatched this amazing proposal plan. Starting a few weeks before, Harry asked Noelle’s best friend from Michigan to ask Noelle to “take a few romantic beach pictures that she could use for a travel client’s project at work.”
So when Noelle’s birthday rolled around during their vacation, they staged the photoshoot for Noelle’s friend with her dad behind the camera. While they continued taking pictures along the beach, Noelle’s two younger brothers and mom popped up behind them holding up signs that read, “Happy Birthday Noey!” But then that surprise led into another when Harry handed Noelle a card, which she read until the birthday signs were flipped around to read, “Please Say Yes!” By then a crowd of local beach goers had gathered just in time to cheer in celebration as Harry got down on one knee.
Her initial excitement turned into happy tears, and we can’t blame her! Her birthday surprise turned into a surprise proposal, which was, in her own words, “such an amazing feeling to have this happen on a beach in Mexico with my family as a part of it.” But, she adds, she “couldn’t have asked for it in any other way!”
They plan to tie the knot in LA sometime in April 2017, once Harry finishes serving in the army. Congrats to the happy couple!
