If you’ve yet to take notice, allow us to introduce you to the biggest trend to hit the red carpet since the plunging neckline: cutouts. Whether you wear them like Elizabeth Olsen or Olivia Wilde’s maternity-friendly option, the “less is more” mentality is definitely taking over celebrity wardrobes. If you’re into the idea of the trend, but not comfortable being quite so exposed, Academy Award nominee Saoirse Ronan just showed us all how to rock the look while staying totally modest.
While walking the red carpet at last night’s Tony Awards, Saoirse showed up in this figure-hugging, blush-colored gown that featured the most subtle of cutouts just below her sternum. While the dress is relatively modest at first glance, the sneaky spot of midriff flesh peeks out once you look a little closer.
This isn’t the first time we’ve spotted a cutout detail in this unique spot. At the Academy Awards, Rooney Mara rocked a more dramatized version of this look in a stunning Givenchy dress. Could all those side cutouts soon be replaced by this alternative? You can bet we’ll have our eyes peeled when the next red carpet rolls out.
