Alert: Shopping Directly on Pinterest Is Finally a Real Thing
MAJOR NEWS ALERT, YOU GUYS. As we have always known, Pinterest is an uh-mazing resource for fueling our shopping decisions. But now it’s turning into a shopping resource itself. Not only will you be able to shop directly from your favorite pins, Pinterest can now tell you how to get your hands on that item you’ve been hardcore coveting.
The first new feature is buyable pins. When you come across a buyable pin on the site, just add it to your shopping bag. At the end you’ll be able to check out from different merchants in one fell swoop. The feature is currently available on the web and Android, and coming soon to iOS.
Also: Say hello to The Pinterest Shop. The online shop will house hand-picked selections from Pinterest editors. There will be women’s fashion, accessories and home decor. It already includes exclusives from home guru Nate Berkus, and you know what that means: a summer transformation for your space.
Pinterest also introduced real-time object recognition. So in those really cool, drool-worthy Pins you can find out where, exactly, to pick up that exquisite lamp or plush rug. Or if that one happens to be out of your price range, Pinterest will recommend all sorts of similar things that may pique your interest.
But the absolute COOLEST new feature that we got a sneak peek of blows all of this out of the water. It’s the offline camera search, and it’s going to change how we shop. Say there’s a cool girl walking down the street, but for one reason or another, you can’t stop her and ask where she got those amazing shoes from. Snap a pic, do a visual search and Pinterest will tell you where and how you can make it yours. The company says it’s coming to us within the next few months, and we could not be more excited.
